Wings of Pern hosts several Weyrs, four at the moment (Crystal Cavern, headed by Mittens, New Cove, belonging to Squid, Talune is Onyx's territory, and Eden is Desert's oasis), each with it's own special asortment of non-canon colors. Currently we're in need of... um... a lot of stuff. We've not been open long, after all.
What We Have, and Can Offer:
- Most of us are active, and the ones who aren't don't have long before they're kicked out, so we don't have inactive threads and characters floating around. (Unless they give us a warning, anyway.)
- A very cool plot, but uncomplicated and it's easy to follow. (Will post below). It leaves open plenty of opportunity for your character's backgrounds.
- Everyone is very nice, and we don't mind helping out newbies. Ask a question, and you will get a polite, at the very least (some of us are too friendly sometimes xD) answer. If it's not polite, then let someone know! 'Kay?
- Lots and lots of open positions, including at least one Weyrwoman, several Wingleaders, and lots of other random positions (Head Woman, Head Cook, Weyrling and Candidate Masters, ect.). Well, we do have four Weyrs to fill, plus more yet to be made... Plus there may possibly be Mod positions left.

Plotline:
When mankind first discovered Pern, many a turn ago, they colonized a single continent, known as the South Continent. Thread drove the away from there, to the harsher climates of the North Continent. To fight the parasitic organizms that fell from the sky, eating anything that wasn't stone, metal, or water, mankind developed a creature, resembling one of myth from their home Terran. The dragons. Bonded telepathically to their riders, and witht he help of a phosphorine rich rock, they could breath fire, and so sear away the Thread. Above and beyond even this great ability, the dragons could fly, and teleport, meaning that they were capable of going anywhere on Pern, and manuevering quickly while fighting the Thread. To be a dragonrider meant to leave the life you had lead before, to show utter dedication, and to live among other riders.
As time passed man forgot their origins, struggling to with the battle againt their foe from the Red Star. Those who were not riders of dragons, held land and Hold, or made the essentials for life in Halls. Those who weren't dragonriders tithed to the Weyrs, to show gratitude for the dangerous work they did. Until a long interval occured, much longer than ever before. The red star did not return at it's scheduled time, and so turn after turn with no Thread falling, the dragonriders seemed to become obsolete. Tithing slowed, and nearly stopped, respect for those of the Weyr vanished. It was they who were called parasites instead of the Thread.
But luck would have it that one Gold and her rider knew different, were determined that Thread would soon fall again, and that they had to be ready. At her Side a Bronze, larger than anything before him, and for some time after. It was they who made it possible to survive when the Therad fell once more, and it was the Gold and her rider who discovered the ability to time as well as teleport.
With the dragonriders in good standing once more, turns came and went, and again, with time passing, came another change to Pern. The dragons were mutating, their colors ranging away from Gold, Bronze, Brown, Blue, and Green. Endless possibilities came, some dragons having adaptations to thier bodies, giving them a specialized task, others seemed smarter than even the riders at times. With the mutations on Pern, it seemed that nothing could go wrong.
Then once more misery struck, this time in the form of a Plague that took all of Pern by suprise. It killed thousands, riders, dragons, holders, any and everyone seemed to be at risk. Only by a miracle did anyone survive, and with numbers depleted harshly, the future looked grim.
By now botht he North and South continent were occupied, though many Weyrs turned up empty, as did Holds and even Halls. By chance and chance alone, a young queenrider made a mistake in her destination while going Between. She had been going to the nearby Hold, hoping that perhaps the Lord there would have news for her, only to find herself in an entirely new place. The East Continent was discovered. The East Continent was more wodded, heavily so, almost as if a tropical forest occupied most of the land, with three large volcanos, each long dormant, but perfect to make Weyrs in. The soil was rich, and many of the plants already growing were edible or of value for medicinal purposes. The East Continent was soon colonized, and three Weyrs were built there.
In the North four weyrs were struggling to survive, and slowly managed to get a meager grip on stability. The South fared similar, with three Weyrs of it's own. It is here that we begin, Pern overcomming a terrible plague, a new land discovered, and endless possibilites, dampered only by the fact that The Red Star is hanging in the sky, and Thread will soon fall.
