"Yeah!" Darket said with a super excited tone. He didn't care how long it took. He wanted to learn to read and maybe write. Looking into the future, he might get to learn to figure numbers too. Oh, it would be so much fun!

Bamre smiled at Darket's excited tone he said to him " You just tell me when you you want to start and we will began." He then reached over and handed one of his books to Darket and said " Here this is yours now. Becuase if you are going to learn to read then you need a book to read."

"Can we start now?" Darket asked excitedly. He really hoped to start soon because reading looked like it might be fun, especially the way Bamre seemed to like it so much.

Bamre looked at and said " Ok, but first I need to know how much you can read so I know how much to teach you. Plus you will need to be patience with me because I am not really a good teacher."

"Um, I've never even really tired, and I have patience, I promise!" Darket exclaimed after having to admit to never even trying before. He would do anything to learn to read.

Bamre open the book and showed it to Darket and said " Alright pick a sentence any sentence and try to read it."

"Umm, what do all those little lines and marks mean?" Darket asked. He really hadn't ever learned anything, not even his letters, so he didn't no what a single one of the scribbles meant. It was all new and foreign to him, though he still really badly wanted to learn.

Bamre looked at the book and said to Darket " Those little marks and lines are various letters and symbols. Like this one is called a period which means that it is the end of a sentenace of the groups of letters called words."
OOC: My Muse is rellay having problem with this teaching thing, but I am trying.

"Oh, so are the letters all the little conneting lines then and the words are all the groupes of connected lines, which I would suppose would be letters?" Darket said, super excited that he was understanding stuff better now. He then asked, "So do I need to learn letters to read, and if so, can you teach me the letters?"

Bamre looked at Darket and said " Sure. Now look here you see this letter it is called A and this one called B and this one C..... Bamre soon reached the end of the alphabet pointing to all the letters then he turned to Darket and said " Mostly it just takes pratice in using the letters to make words."

"Okay," Darket said and then he repeated all the letters, stumbling on a couple like Q O, but other than that, doing fairly well. He then asked, "So each letter has a sound we speak attache to make a word we speak?"

Bamre smiled and said " That is correct. Each letter has a differnt sound and when you combine the letters together in groups then it spells and sounds out a word. The more you read the more words you know."

"That's cool, but how do I figure out the meaning of words that I don't know?" Darket asked, knowing that there would probably be words that were written that weren't spoken.

Bamre thought about that for a second and said " Well the only ways that I can think of would be to look it up in a book of word definitions or you could ask someone and see if they know."

"What sound does this make?" Darket asked while pointing to the letter "Z". He was going to question every letter and letter combination till he knew all the rules.
OOC: To help a little bit, remember the rules of phonics.
