Geography is not the only thing that causes change. Time does as well.
What if Moreta died before she was able to deliver the cures for the pandemic that struck Pern during the sixth Pass? What if a Weyr had been established in the South? What if a Quarentine was imposed between the North and the South that was never lifted? After two hundred Turns of separation, how would the continents differ?
