Name: J’can
Age: 31
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Bronze Rider
Family: None that he would claim besides his father, a fisherman named Jurence.
Pets: No! J’can thinks that pets only distract the rider; the focus should be on the dragon alone.
Physical Appearance: J’can has an extremely intimidating presence. His hair is an indiscriminant sun-bleached blonde that is cut so close to his head that you can see the skin of his scalp. He has a hawkish nose, and his facial features look like someone chiseled them there with stone-cutter tools. He is definitely not handsome, not even in a rugged way. His facial expression rarely changes from its stern mask of seriousness, but some say that his smile is scarier than his permanent frown, so perhaps it’s best if he keeps his expression. He stands at an imposing 6’2”, and his strict training regiment does not allow him to gain anything but muscle. His large, callused hands sport old scars from his days as a fisherman’s son. J’can tends to wear the same outfit every single day: a dark brown vest, a white shirt beneath that, pants the same color as the vest, and a pair of dark brown boots. Most people jokingly call it J’can’s uniform; if J’can had his way, everyone would be sporting a uniform.
Personality: Whenever J’can enters a room, people go quiet. He has that pervading, impressive presence that causes you to take notice and stand a little straighter. He offends just about everyone he meets and often gains their dislike and sometimes hatred, but he almost always gains their respect as well. He never lies or cheats or glosses things over; J’can tells it as he sees it. It’s as if no one ever taught him any tact whatsoever, but the people who are under him admire him for his candor. J’can has a high moral code for himself, and he expects it of other people as well. He does not tolerate lying, cursing, stealing, killing, or cheating very well at all.
J’can has no desire for power or control, but he does desire perfection and orderliness. He is incredibly well-organized, and he becomes agitated when his schedule is somehow compromised. J’can is a pessimist and will let you know of any flaw in your plan or any plan you might be considering. He goes over details meticulously and will drive people insane with his quest for perfection. He is borderline O.C.D; you could eat off the floor of his weyr.
J’can is very serious and very stern, and not many people become friends with him. Those who do have his friendship understand that they will rarely receive a kind word from him, but they do receive less insults or reprimands. J’can does not have much use for women besides a few obligatory sexual activities every now and then; he prefers not to have relationships because they get in the way and are always messy. He dislikes pets because he believes them to be messy and distracting, no matter how well-trained or adorable they are. Many people find his demeanor taxing and leave the room whenever he enters. Which is fine with J’can; they left scuff marks on the floor when they went out, anyway.
History: J’can, or Jerecan as he was once know, was born in a very small fishing hold in the northern continent. He was the oldest son, the heir his father’s fishing boat and nets. Jerecan never dreamed of a life beyond the fishing village and the sea; the rolling waves, the unpredictable storms, and the cold salt mist was all he had ever known or wanted. His father told him that his loyalty was to the fishing village alone, and Jerecan believed him. He was always a serious child, always seen but never heard around the adults. He was helpful around the village and was an expert at corralling the younger children. He commanded respect, even if he had to bully it out of a kid.
When he was thirteen and helping his father at an Ista market, he was picked up by a rider who thought he would make a good candidate. A reluctant participant, he was put into a weyr community hold. Although he was an outsider from a tiny, insignificant hold, Jerecan asserted himself as a leader among the candidates, using his wits, sternness, and ability to lead without a falter in self-confidence to get him through. No one was surprised when a year later, he Impressed bronze Ruxth and became J’can.
J’can and Ruxth spent their years protecting weyr holds. Life was routine and planned, but boring, even for J’can. When he heard of the young weyrwoman and other bronzes' belief in Thread, J’can scoffed at first. However, the niggling idea that he may have missed a detail drove him mad until he decided to transfer to Allride. If Thread was going to fall, J’can was going to be there to stop it!
Dragon name: Ruxth
Dragon color: Bronze
Dragon age: 17
Appearance: Ruxth is a solid, unyielding shade of dark bronze. There is not an endearing smear of redder bronze or dash of yellow bronze anywhere on the dragon. He is a stately creature who carries himself with pride. Like his rider, Ruxth is not the prettiest of bronzes and he isn’t the best proportioned, but he is strong in the air. If some bronzes were helicopters and others were jets, Ruxth would be a flying armored and armed tank.
Personality: Ruxth is less hardcore and strict than his rider. He is more lenient, making him the soft edge to J’can's often brutal statements. Although Ruxth is not as outspoken about it, he takes training just as seriously as J’can, and often thinks of those that do not meet his rider’s expectations as poor riders and dragons. Ruxth is even quieter than his rider, often going days without speaking to anyone but J’can.
