J’can walked to the Weyrleader and Weyrwoman’s offices in a brisk march, arms stiffly swinging, his head erect and facing forward. He did not look at the people around him or even care that they fell back a little as he passed. He had a mission: get to the leaders of the Weyr and announce his presence immediately. He had swung off of Ruxth’s back moments ago. The dirt on his face and hands irritated him, but he decided that his urgent need to meet the people who ran this place was more insistent than his less-urgent but annoying urge to clean up first.
After leaving Ruxth in the Weyrbowl, J’can had quickly found someone to tell him where he was supposed to go. The little weyrling had been obviously shock by the giant coming up and asking gruffly where the Weyrwoman and Weyrleader’s offices were. The kid had been even more surprised when, after giving a slow answer, he was told that he was incompetent and needed to be more prompt.
When he reached the rooms, J’can pounded on the door three times and then stood at parade-rest, hands behind his back as he waited for someone to answer his call.

Kelyna was surprised to her someone banging on the door. Turning to C'lyn she shrugged and then walked toward the door with little Karlyn sitting on her hip and Creel, her flit, was sitting o the oppisate shoulder. In another month the little child would be taken from her and raised in the creche, like most goldrider's children. Kelyna was happy she even got to keep her child for three months.
When Kelyna opened the door she almost jumped in surprise to see the man standing so stifly at the door. Creel sat there staring at the man and then Kelyna finally said, "Be at ease. Please, why do you come at this moment and who are you?" Kelyna wondered if he was someone from the council, or a rider, or maybe, though unlikely, a candidate. Looking closer she saw bronze rider knots, sohe was some bronze rider, but that still didn't mean he wasn't from the council.

C'lyn allowed Kelyna to greet the stranger. That gave him the opportunity to give the guy a brief visual checking over.
Bronzerider, by the knots, and a big one...and Malaracyth would fly soon. C'lyn did not see a spy; he saw a rival. His caring for Kelyna, though, would give Kilith an advantage.
He hoped. What if the man was a spy -and- his dragon flew... Azure chirped in his ear. As often, the firelizard brought his attention solidly back to the present and he stood, finally. Yeah. That was a big man.

J’can glanced over at the surprised Weyrwoman appraisingly. He knew her name, just as he knew her two cohorts names; he had done a lot of research before transporting himself and Ruxth to the renegade Weyr. Her positives: young, tall, fine facial bone structure, strong spirit; her negatives: hair too long, baby in tow, and a firelizard on her shoulder. J’can briefly narrowed his eyes at the firelizards; he hated the little beasts. The creatures demanded time and effort that riders should be giving to their dragons, not to some miniscule, worthless wannabe dragon.
J’can nodded stiffly to the Weyrleader who also had one of those annoying pests. He had a bad feeling scraping at him that the firelizards were going to be abundant down here. J’can returned his stare to the Weyrwoman. “I am at ease, m’am,” he replied. He began to rattle off his grounds for transferring to Allride; he had memorized them during the journey. “I am here as a transfer bronze rider from the North. I found that the conditions there were no longer suitable for myself or my dragon. Although I am not certain that I believe in Thread as of yet, I will not allow myself to be caught unawares. Those are my specific reasons.”

C'lyn nodded. "And you are willing to devote you and your dragon's time to preparing for Thread?" Unspoken was the thought that if they were wrong, then all of this was a waste of time.
He too had a firelizard, but perhaps sensing J'can's feelings, Azure flitted between. Or maybe there was a green to flirt with somewhere...
Well. They needed another bronze. They needed more choice for Malaracyth and for the two young queens when the time came...which might be very fast indeed with Renth.

“Yes,” J’can replied, “No detail is to be left unprepared for.” It was a motto that he lived and abided by, more like a cardinal rule than a slogan.
His annoyed gaze followed the blue flit’s flight out the door. Good riddance.
“I am a hard worker at whatever task I am assigned,” J’can said. “I am best at guarding weyr holds; it has been my and my dragon’s job since graduating weyrlinghood. If there is a similar job here that I could be assigned, or a patrol wing, that is where I would be of most use.”

"Maybe you could meat up with our guard, Hellia. She is very focused on her job and is a bronze wher handler. Either she or her wher are guarding at all times. You might work something out with her. I think the cloudy sky wing has no one in it if you want it. Also, you are expected to do your fair share of work, we are not lazy and no one sits around doing nothing." Kelyna gave a quick run down to the bronze rider. She pretended not to even notice his dislike of flits, he would have to get over it sometime. Malaracyth poked her huge head toward the small human door to see the new person. She eyed the man before saying to Kelyna, If he wants me than Ruxth will have to prove himself. Kellyna smiled slightly and affectionatly rubbed Malarcyth's eye ridge before turning her attention back to J'can.

C'lyn was again letting Kelyna handle things, but there was clearly no sign of weakness, physical or mental, in the bronzerider. Finally, he spoke up with, "And right now, we are short handed. Everyone has to work hard. If you know of others who want to come here...we welcome any willing to work, rider or not."
Actually, his impressions of J'can were somewhat less than positive, but what could he do? He couldn't like -everyone-.

J’can nodded curtly. “It sounds as if you are in need of another guard. I will attend to that need.” J’can ran over the idea of being in charge of a wing rapidly through his head. He was prepared for that responsibility and there was a need there. It was an appropriate course of action to take control of that wing and the riders that would come to it. “I will take Cloudy Sky. May I pick my riders, or shall they be assigned?”
J’can snorted at the thought of being lazy. He had not had a lazy day in his entire life. It was highly unlikely that he would start now. “I will do work here as I have done in my previous positions.”
He turned to look at the Weyrleader. “I know only of a few people that may be entertained by the idea, but I doubt they will be willing to make the journey.”
