Skill Level: Mid to high. We do require a bit more effort in our posts, and it shows. While knowledge of Pern isn't a much, it is generally helpful if you do know what is going on.
Activity level: Low as it is a completely new weyr.
Notes: An RP with an interesting plot twist, the affects of the meteor are seen in several new colors in both whers and dragons, including Diamonds and Smokes, Flames and Tanzanites, and there is a possibility of it continuing. Since we are new, a great deal of positions are open, including a junior weyrling Queen. There is also soon to be a clutch on the sands, so candidates are desperatly needed.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was all going perfectly well. Sure Thread was expected to begin falling within the next one hundred turns, but the dragonriders of Pern in all their mighty weyrs were perfectly prepared. In the past one hundred turns since the last Fall, everything had flourished, the weyrs extending even into the South, creating five new weyrs, and in particular was Hyacinthe Weyr, built high into the ice topped mountains, their range extending far and wide, though the other four were closer to the seas, though one in particular was also built in the low mountains, nearly in a bowl.
Everything was peaceful, everything was going good... That is, until several meteors made their way through the atmosphere with an entourage of burning smaller meteorites... While this wouldn't be a problem usually, these meteors were of unusual size, and was a precursor to something far worst. Even as the dragonriders and holdfolk marveled over these strange objects, several more larger ones blasted onto Pern, three striking the Northern continent, one in the seas just off the south, and one directly on the point of the Southern tip. The North was nearly completely devastated, the weyrs and their dragons lost, first in the wave of fire, and then those left were either driven to exhaustion trying to help survivors, then there was famine, and then finally came the deaths due to radiation.
The South was affected as well, the two sea-side weyrs drowned practically in their sleep by swamping waves, and the bowl weyr was buried when the final meteor hit right beside it, covering it with molten rock. The only true weyr left relatively unscathed, mostly by its positioning in the deep South and surrounded by cold mountains was Hyacinthe Weyr. In fact it took several days after the rocking of the world for Hyacinthe to send out riders to scout out, and devastation was what met them as they took stories back to their weyr. One of these search riders was a young jr weyrwoman, sent as ambassador for any living dragonriders, but only about one hundred of the riders from the Lost Southern Weyrs were left alive to join Hyacinthe, and the North was unreacheable by dragon voice, and no one knew if it was completely gone. A later venture into the North would be needed, but now Hyacinthe focused on their own struggles, left in a world that they were practically the only safe place, a haven for those who's lives had been shattered. For months and even turns after straggling people crawled in to Hyacinthe for its protection, and soon the oddest of things began to happen.
The young Queen Rose and was Caughts, laid her eggs upon the sands, but something was... off... She could not tell her rider why several of the eggs seemed odd, but upon Hatching Day, it soon became apparent that her time near the craters and devestated lands had left their mark on her genetically... One was a male, large as a bronze but so pale you could almost see his ichor-filled veins, silver blue, like the precious diamonds or crystals sometimes found, a pair of twins who's midnight and sky blue hides shimmered with moonlight gold and cream overtones, a flame colored female, and another that seemed to be the smokey remains of what the flame had burnt...
There were more, twisted and malformed creatures that mainly died before Impressing, though one wingless dragonet went on to Impress a young boy, and Bronze Hrajith the Wingless Impressed to H'vas, and another two headed dragonet Bonded, then died moments later. For all the tragedy, those that had survived were welcomed, the new colors named and trained until they were old enough to fly and fight and train besides their brethren, who were in dire need of help. For now Hyacinthe was supposedly the one weyr remaining, and with so few riders, how would they ever survive the coming fall?
All seemed doomed, with only several Queens left in existance and all in the south, and all at Hyacinthe, and Fall on the horizo... It would be only a few turns before thread was to fall, and the former Jr Queen Javath, now ascended to Sr Queen, and now nearly into her seventies, laid her last clutch... A clutch that consisted, thank Faranth, of a Queen Egg. She lived to see her children Hatch. And no one found it odd when a young woman, scarred from her time out with the whers, Impressed to the true Gold, Cadvala and Aristonteth... No one truly noted it, though their names would soon become loudly spoken in all corners of the weyr.
Several more years passed without fail, spent in training and trying to save those they could... The council of Hyacinthe had for a while now been deciding what to do about the North, and approached the young Queen, daughter of Javath, and now barely out of weyrlinghood herself, were asked to head the delegation to the north and to set up a weyr there. The pair agreed, always having been rather independent and rebellious, chafing under the rule of the older Queen, and along with a barely winged Gold, hatched only a turn before, as well as a group of dragons, flew North to establish a new Weyr. Along with them were Hold folk, Wherhandlers, everyone they could bring.
They were shocked by the devastation and the dead look in the survivors who had barely been eeking out an existance in between their shattered homes, the fierce creatures mutated by the metoer, just as the Dragons had been, and the bandits that thrived in such harsh lands. They founded a home, surrounded by mountains on all sides, and got ready to entrench themselves. A hold was set up nearby, but it is still up to debate on whether or not this small embassy can do what they came to do, can get enough of a foothold in the North to protect even the smallest area... But with Aristonteth about to Rise for the first time and enemies on all sides, will this little weyr rise to the top, or fall like the other Northern Weyrs?
