Name: Narinkeez (Keez for short)
Age: 18 Turns
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Rank: Candidate
Family: Narin (Father), Akeezla (Mother) Ezla (Sister), Arinkez (Brother), Neekrin (Brother), Akerin (Brother), Nareela (Sister)
Pets: None
Physical Appearance: Narinkeez is much taller than any of his family members, but could be outgrown by his younger siblings. He is 6'3 and is almost as tall as his grandpa was, though his dad never got that tall. His mother is even on the short side so all of his family was surprised that he got so tall. He got his father's thick, straight brown hair and his mother's light hazel eyes. He has a firm chin and high, but kind of shallow cheek bones, that make him very handsome looking in the face. He is very thin, though, and it doesn't look like he has any muscles at all, though he is strong. His parents hope that he will fill out like his younger brother Arinkez who is very burly and bulky with muscle.
Because his family doesn't have a lot of money, Narinkeez is always dressed modestly. He wears clothes for comfort and not for how pretty they look. He only has two sets of clothing for when he has to dress up and both outfits are very nice in contrast to his normal, dull colored tunics and trousers. He doesn't even have many tunics because some of them are made very well and expensive so instead he just wears plain shirts in plain colors. When he moved to Renegade Hold with his family, following the traders they were indentured to and then sent to Allride Weyr, he was given better clothes, but not really.
Personality: Narinkeez isn't the type of person to laugh very much or smile because he has lived a hard life. He knows the value of hard work and does his best to make everything he works on or tries to create the best it can be because that used to be the only way he could help his family out by earning marks. He is a very determined young man, knowing that the only person he can really depend on for his own survival is himself. Still, he can trust people very well and even though he doesn't seem to have a sense of humor can make friends easy because so many people find that they can depend on him all the time and because he doesn't lie and tries not to hurt people's feelings. He thinks that the best way for Pern to survive is for everyone to get along with each other.
Narinkeez takes everything seriously and doesn't understand things like sarcasm or when people say something like calling someone "tiny" but they really are making fun of that person because they are so huge. He takes everything literally so don't try tell him to take a walk, because he will! But even though he is like that, it doesn't mean he isn't smart, because he is. Out of all of his brothers and sisters, he was the one who got the most education and is actually one of those 'bookish sorts'. He likes to read when he can and can do it for candles at a time if he has the chance. This is probably why he seems to have no common sense!
History: Once upon a time and a long, long time ago, Narinkeez's family was really good friends with a certain trading family, that family being the newly married couple who would give birth to a certain girl. That girl, as we know her now, is named Linara. Back in the day, both families (both without children at this time) were good friends. Neither of them were too concerned about those all important marks, even though both families were traders. Well, not on the outside that is. Both fathers of the family were very, very greedy, but Narinkeez's dad just wasn't very street smart and he really had a bad habit, that habit being gambling.
One day, Narin, Narinkeez's dad, saw that Linara's father had made much more marks than he had selling a similar product that he had come up with and he was furious. He was so upset that he was going to do something sneaky and bad to try and make a lot of marks so that he could pretend and say that he had made more than Linara's father. But things didn't work out right. He ended up gambling away all of the family's savings and money, leaving them with nothing but the clothes on their backs and the small home that they had. From that day on, Narin was a broken man and found that his selling ability had left him and he could no longer get anyone to buy his things.
His family, growing now to include Narinkeez, Elza, and Arinkez, was starting to starve. For the first Turns of his life Narinkeez couldn't only remember being hungry and not ever having good clothes. Unable and unwilling to allow his children and his wife, who was threatening to kill herself, to remain like this, he begged his old friend, Linara's father, to help him. The man agreed under one condition: They would become indentured servants to them, working for them, selling the products they made, and the women would be in charge of being personal maid/butler type personnel to the family.
At first, Narin refused, but he couldn't bear what would happen to his family if he did not. So, they ended up traveling and working for Linara's family. A few years into this situation, Linara was born and, when he had time, the very young Narinkeez was charged with taking care of her since neither of his two siblings were old enough to do so at the time. But those siblings became three, then four, until the family was the size that it is now. Despite the fact that they were looked down upon by Linara's family, they were treated well, given food, a place to live, and all the bare necessities they needed to live.
But Narinkeez wasn't happy with the situation and had always looked at the retired dragonriders he'd seen around while he was helping his dad do some trading, or taking the toddler Linara around the places they frequented with longing. They were free to do as they pleased, they depended on no one and no one could force them to do anything! It was something that he desperately wanted to do, but there were few Clutching golds and he had no hope of actually becoming a dragonrider until luck intervened.
Linara's family had gotten wind that they could become even richer than they already were in a new mixture of a Weyr Hold and Cothold called Renegade Hold. They were quick to up heave Narinkeez's family and move them all to Renegade Weyr. Linara had become more and more spoiled while Narinkeez had to work harder and harder. When she was fifteen, she decided that she wanted to try and become a dragonrider over at Allride Weyr. Could she do it? Was it possible? Was it really even a Weyr? Narinkeez didn't know, but was desperate to follow his dreams as well.
Even though he was almost a slave to Linara's family, they were kind to Narinkeez and his siblings. They agreed to let any of the children who wanted to go to Allride Weyr as well and, if they could make a better life for themselves then that was fine with them. Narinkeez jumped at the chance and when he was 18 Turns was sent to Allride Weyr when they heard the black Queen had laid a fine Clutch on the Sands.
