It was a bright, sunny day, and most of the weyrfolk were outside, enjoying the nice day. Maylina, however, had confined herself to the Hatching Grounds. The eggs were hard and she wanted to be there when they began to hatch. She was just eating the lunch she had packed for herself when she saw the first egg begin to twitch. Renth noticed it at the same time and let out a loud bugle. HATCHING! Get to the sands NOW! she bellowed, speaking into the minds of everyone in the Weyr.
More eggs began to twitch, cracks spreading down the shells of some of them. Maylina forgot her lunch and hurried down to the lowest tier of the stands, standing near Renth. She was grinning, an unusually cheerful expression on her face. She couldn't wait to see Renth's babies!

Linara felt like she was one of the only Candidates outside in the Weyr Bowl today. She had done a good job and had even finished her work. Sometimes she had pushed her work onto other Candidates, but not today. Even the herdbeast supervisor said that she had done a good job and had given her a pat on the back before releasing her to go and have some fun for once. But she wouldn't get to enjoy the sunlight for long!
Just when she was going to settle herself down, she heard the great black queen roar! Was she finally going to get in trouble for sneaking to look in at the eggs?! No, no, no! What she had been dreaming about for weeks was about to finalyl finally happen! The Eggs of Renth's great clutch were about to Hatch. Before a dragon rider came over to escort her to her room, Linara was already there, pulling her robes on and making sure she looked nice for the birth of baby dragons.
Hopefully her apperance and the fact that she had even lost some weight while being at the Weyr would help her confidence enough to attract a dragon, and maybe even the queen of the Clutch, to her! Without wasting a moment, she was sprinting to the Hatching Grounds, trying not to mess up or dirty her clothes on the way there. She entered the grounds and walked right up to Renth, felling completely brave and not at all scared. Linara bowed deep to the black queen, lowering her eyes in respect.
"Good morning, great ebony Renth," She said boldly before stepping back to form the girl's line as close as she could get to the majestic queen egg.
Right near her was her childhood caretaker, even though he was only a few Turns older than she was. Narinkeez had appeared on the grounds out of breath, but wearing his traditional robes and sandals. He had been in a lesson with a dragonrider about what to expect at the Hatching when Renth called all the Candidates. It hadn't taken him too long to dress and that was probably because he wasn't a girl like Linara was.
He now stood somewhere towards the 'middle' of the Egg area so that he could get a very good view of what was going on. Plus he didn't want to annoy Renth by being so close like Linara was, though he had bowed very deeply to the black queen as well before stepping back to a proper distance.
Now was the time to prove to himself that he was good enough to be a dragonrider! Now he could finally say that he was good enough to be free of the serventry he'd grown up to!

Lithe though of course was laying in his bed and was drawing when he heard the bugle and Renith's call. It suprised him causing him to acdenitly throw his papers everywhere. It was a few seconds later after he calmed down and though for a few moments that it felled him with excitment. Wave and Tree appeared and after Lithe put on his robe. The two flits landed on ethier shoulder. Lithe then walked towards the sands. Though he did so of course at a fast pace. He soon reached them and he quickly though neverously took up his spot with the rest of the boys. After giving a small bow to Renth of course. He figured the Ebony would tear his head off if he didn't. Though he moved to werde he was abit closer to the back of the group. Tree and Wave both were wacthing curiously. Lithe saw Linara and waved to her. Though he knew that she problery could not see him. Ethier that or she problery would not be paying attention. She was problery more focused on the eggs like he was now.
All thoughts of neverousness that he would normally have had in situtions like this where gone. The time that he had been at the Weyr had changed him quite abit and now he was not neverous and was only thinking of the little dragons that he knew that would soon be hacthing. He wondered if he would impress. He really hoped so. Though he knew that if he did not. He would still have Tree and Wave and they would keep him company until there was anthoer hacthing. So that esaed his worries alittle bit.

Idara would much rather have been outside relaxing rather than writing out a precise report about the candidate lesson that were being given at Allride to pass on to the council, who would probably dismiss it anyway since they were all old. If it weren’t her duty to do so she would have left the report for another time.
Idara was carefully folding the paper to tuck into her clothing until she could pass it over to her contact to be sent back to the Northern Continent when the bugle of a dragon made jump nearly a foot in the air. That was the kind of sound a queen would make when her clutch was hatching. Hard on the heels of Idara’s thought came Renth’s announcement that her eggs were indeed hatching and allride’s dragons and firelizards took up the distinctive hum of a hatching.
Idara changed out of her normal clothes into her robe and sandals, carefully tucking her report into her breastband, she didn’t want anyone to get hold of that! Idara pulled brush through her hair and checked her reflection in a window. She made a face, without her usual bright garb Idara looked like a pale ghost of her normal self.
The sandals made it hard for Idara to walk quickly, every time she moved a bit too fast she stubbed her toes or nearly tripped over. So it was that Idara entered the hatching grounds with a careful step that made her look dignified She bowed deeply to Renth hoping the ebony wouldn’t remember who she caught peeking on her eggs and quickly moved away into to stand near the middle of the candidate group. She wonderd which egg would hatch first, probably not the gold. Her father and grandfather would be so proud of her if she Impressed a queen and followed her great aunt’s fine example but what would they think if she Impressed one of the odd dragons?

Robe on, sandals on. Just like last time. Marakar did not run out onto the Sands, he did not hurry. There was absolutely no point.
Out onto the Sands. There was Renth, and he bowed to her dark form, watching over her eggs. Her hatchlings, they would soon me, and he could hope that one of them would, indeed, be his. Now, what would crack shell first? What omen for the Weyr?
He glanced at Idara, at Lithe...who got a grin. So did Linara, who was his personal pick for the queen. Then, all of the boy's attention was on the rocking, twitchng, cracking eggs. "Come on out, little ones. We're ready for ou."
He was, anyway. There was not even a trace of nerves in the boy. He knew what it was not to be chosen. Would he now find out what it as to be claimed by a dragon?
No nerves. He just stood there, waiting, but he did wish they would hurry up and hatch.
OOC: Can people please bear in mind NO posts from me AT ALL between December 22 and December 27? Please?

The first egg to hatch was the small candy land egg. What came out of that egg, nobody had expected. D'kin and Fazeth had come to watch the hatching and were in shock when they realized the first hatchling looked like it was burning! It had all the colors that seemed to vary from yellow all the way to red on the color wheel and was the size of a small green! This strange hatchling just strengthened D'kin in his belief that Renth was the best queen alive, with all the eggs she had produced, and having a strange color be the first egg, though, it was smaller.
Down on the sand the hatchling had stopped and was eying the candidates. He seemed to be picking apart every candidate, looking for the perfect candidate for him. After looking around for some time (the next egg might have already hatched by then) he turned and walked right up to Marakar and said, Mine, your Fioreth has evaluated the other candidates and has decided that you are the best for me.
Egg: Candy Land- This tiny egg is a vibrant shade of pink with stripes of white all over it. It looks just like a candy cane! Rider: Marakar (please change name to honorific of name) Dragon Name: Fioreth Came from: Fiore is flower in Italian Color: Multi-color: This dragon looks as if he is a mixture of all the colors between red and yellow on the color wheel. His color pattern seems to move and change, so you can never quite tell what color is where, and where red and yellow are because they are so interspersed with the oranges, giving him almost a flaming look to his hide. In truth, his colors are always in the same place, it is just the optical illusion of so many swirling colors that the colors seem to move. He is the size of a small green. Personality: He is a calm and steady dragon, always able to be leaned upon and depended upon. He always takes forever to evaluate a situation and decide if he should intervene or not, often deciding when the situation (argument, fight, whatever) is already over. He seems worldly wise already, except when he gets to frolic in the water. He loves the water and water games. And his take on flaming, "You want me to get near fame!!! Flame could burn me, kill me, and you what me near that stuff! I think not." That is how he has evaluated the situation of having to flame. He sees himself as smart for this (being afraid of fire) and his rider will have a hard time convincing old Mr. Dependable otherwise. Yes, sadly enough, this flame looking dragon has a pyrophobia, though he claims it as being "smart". Color Code: Any color between red and orange on the color wheel...

Crack...and the first one was out. Marakar's breath caught for a moment. What omen was it when the first to hatch was...another mutation.
Red? Yellow? Orange? Fire colored, Marakar decided after a moment. Fire colored and small. And in no hurry.
A picky one, he decided, keeping one eye on it...no way of knowing if fire dragons were male or female until this one Impressed and told its rider...and one on the rest of the clutch as it checked out each and every Candidate.
It walked past him, and he let out a breath, but no...it was turning around. It was coming back. Small, yes. Not as small as Automatath had been, though. Not white or rainbow sized, but rather small green sized. And it burned with the brightest of flame, and then...quiet support flowed through him, a contrast to the appearance. He suddenly felt as if he could face anything. True, he had not been nervous before, but now, he had a feeling as if he would never be nervous again.
And the voice in his mind...male, which surprised him, but was right nonetheless. "Fioreth." The name, that formed out of everything this dragon was, was quiet on his lips, and he was on one knee, reaching to touch that flaming hide. Which was warm, but no warmer than any other dragon, it did not, truly, burn.
And you are M'kar. I would like to eat now.
There was food around here somewhere. M'kar reached out his hand, resting it on Fioreth, guiding the hatchling to the waiting bowls of meat. He was entirely aware that quite a few people were staring at both of them. He didn't care. Not greenrider M'kar, after all. Firerider M'kar. After all, he couldn't call Fioreth 'red' or 'orange' or even 'yellow', he had all of those colors.

Maylina leaned forward, her gaze riveted on the tiny pink egg. She had expected it to be green, judging by its size and the feminine coloring of its shell, but she could not have been more wrong. She gasped at the sight of the fiery little dragon. A completely new color! Congratulations, Renth!
He will be a very handsome dragon. What should we call his color? The Ebony wondered. Hmm...we'll have to discuss that with Kelyna, probably. Maybe there will be more like him.
As more of the eggs began to crack open, Maylina turned her attention to them. Then, she noticed the gold egg beginning to rock. Renth's hum grew louder as she welcomed her daughter onto the sands. A golden claw slashed through the center of the egg, splitting it neatly in two.
A dainty, light colored Gold hatchling stood on the sands, her eyes whirling bright crimson with hunger. Shaking herself and probably hitting the audience with egg goo in the process, she turned towards the candidates. Oh, they all admired her so! They were so very nice! Who would she choose? Tentatively, she stepped towards the girls...
And the deceptively unassuming and cute Cherish Egg exploded, sending shards everywhere. A pale Sapphire dragon remained in its wake. DON'T YOU DARE TAKE MY GIRL! Everyone on the sands was treated to the Sapphire's shout. With a comical little bugle, she bolted at the candidates, running straight into Linara and knocking her over.
Linaramine! I am Arboleth! Don't you think I'm prettier than the Queen?
The gold snorted and stepped lightly towards the candidates, stopping before Idara. Ha! As if I would pick anyone but you, Idara. My name is Tuinth, and I am very hungry!
Maylina grinned, recognizing the two girls who had snuck onto the sands. Good thing she hadn't banned them from the Hatching! Meanwhile, the three small eggs that had been around the Gold egg in the circle began to rock, clearly the next to hatch.
------
Name: Arboleth Name Origin: Arbol means tree in Spanish Color: Sapphire Font Color: "lightcyan" Personality: Brash, loud, outspoken...Arboleth always makes sure her voice is heard! She is a bold creature, not afraid to speak up and complain about whatever is bothering her. Definitely not afraid of authority figures, she can be downright rebellious at times. This little Sapphire also has a big ego. She is arrogant and full of herself, and believes she is the best dragon around. Appearance: In contrast to her bold personality, Arboleth's appearance is quite unassuming. She is dainty and delicate, small for a Sapphire. She is well proportioned, and has soft, feminine features. Her hide is a very light blue, with streaks of a brighter, sapphire blue going down her wings.
Name: Tuinth Name Meaning: Tuin means garden in Dutch Color: Gold Font Color: "Lemonchiffon" Personality: Tuinth is a peacemaker. She is polite and courteous to everyone, and she will do whatever she can do avoid a conflict. If she can not outright avoid an argument, she does her best to smooth over the problems as soon as possible. She wants to please everyone and gets very upset when someone doesn't approve of her. Tuinth embodies the motherly characteristics of a Gold rather than the arrogance. She is very caring and watches out for everyone. When it comes time for her to clutch, she will be very protective, but she will also be happy to show her babies off to the world. Appearance: Tuinth's hide is the palest shade of gold, a light champagne shade. Her hide is covered in delicate swirls of a deep antique gold, and her nose bears a snip of buttery yellow-gold. She will grow to be a medium sized dragon, smaller than Malacryth, but still of a formidable size.

Idara was one of the many who gasped when the small stripy egg burst open and spilled an entirely new colour of dragon to the sands, a dragonet that seem wrethed in flame, for its hide was all the colours of fire. Only the size of a green but easily holding all the attention. Finally the hatchling headed off to the boys and made his, Idara assumed the hatchling was male, choice. Idara hoped Renth was proud of her first hatched child.
More eggs began to crack but for a moment after the first hatched dragon and his new rider left the sands none broke. Then Renth’s hum grew louder and the gold egg began to rock even more. Idara was sure she wasn’t the only one to hold her breath as a golden talon split the egg in two. The queen dragonet was pale and smaller than some but Idara didn’t think she was unhealthy, not by the way she shook herself off and examined the candidates regally.
DON’T YOU DARE TAKE MY GIRL! all of a sudden one of the female blues had shattered her egg and challenged her gold clutchsister with a mini bugle. She bolted off, right into Linara, and to judge by the sapphire’s actions thus far the pair of them were very well suited.
The gold snorted softly and continued on her way to the girls. Ha! As if I would pick anyone but you, Idara. My name is Tuinth, and I am very hungry! Idara found the new queen standing before her and knelt in the sand to run a hand over Tuinth’s soft hide. ‘I did it.’ She whispered to herself. ‘I really Impressed a queen, I’ll do my very best to be like great aunt Idrina.’ Is that a good thing? Tuinth inquired, then looked as embarrassed as a dragon could when her stomach rumbled loudly. Sorry, I really am very hungry now she said hopefully as well as apologetically. Idara scrambled to her feet, noting for the first time how hot her knees were now. ‘I’m sorry Tuinth, I’ll feed you right now.’ With that Idara led her dragon toward the food set out for the hatchlings.

There was a slight lull in the hatching, with only those three eggs rocking. Everyone had their eyes on them, but then the reddish Cinnamon Twist egg cracked open. The pieces fell away, leaving a small, dark green dragon in place of the egg. She yawned and stretched, then turned to regard the candidates, her eyes whirling with curiosity. The forest green stepped up to the group, sniffing at Narikeez and nudging Tanale. She crooned, as if something amused her. Finally, she stopped in front of Lithe and stayed there, satisfied by this candidate.
Lithemine, will you feed your Blumath? she asked, nuzzling the boy's hand.
Just as the Impression occurred, all three of the smallest eggs opened. The three Rainbow dragons tumbled into each other, getting all tangled up. It was impossible to distinguish one from the other, they just looked like one big rainbow lump.
Name: Blumath Name Meaning: Blum means flower in German. Color: Green Font color: 003300 Personality: Blumath is a bold, courageous dragon. She is very protective and will always stand up for those in need. Blumath has a very motherly side to her, almost like a Gold. She is attracted to those who are weak or troubled, and she will do whatever she can to help them. This includes animals and human children. Her rider had better be ready to get lots of pets to satisfy her love of animals. Appearance: Blumath's hide is a dark green that almost looks black in some spots. Close up, you can see that the dark green is overlaid with flecks of a lighter spring green that almost look like a pattern of pine needles. She is average sized for a green, neither unusually small nor noticeably large, and she has a slender, agile build.

M'kar kept feeding his fire, his handsome boy, but he was keeping one eye on the Hatching. The gold to some girl he did not know well. Linara got a sapphire...he hoped she'd be happy with that.
Then a green and three...count them, three...rainbows. He wondered if any would break the pattern and Impress to boys. The green checked out several candidates and stopped in front of...
"Lithe!" Marakar said, brightly.
Who is that? Fioreth asked, proving the advantage and disadvantage of telepathy. The dragonet could talk with his mouthful.
"A friend. I'm glad your sister chose him." He had wondered if Lithe would Impress green, and it seemed he had guessed right. It was his own bonding he had not predicted, but that was because it was a new color. Fioreth. So special. He tried to get Lithe's attention once the boy started to move towards the feeding buckets. There was good meat right here, right next to him.
That was a very, very dark green, too.

((Here go the NPCs))
Tobias smiled at the tangle of rainbow dragons that had just hatched, they were as cute and clumsy as canine pups, and a whole lot smarter too. He really hoped he could Impress this time around, though nearly all of the dragons hatching were female, maybe the pretty orange one wasn’t though, maybe it was a male version of a rainbow.
Thinking of rainbows Tobias frowned, he thought they were rare but here were three at once, oh well maybe Ebony dragons would have more of the new colours in their clutches, that certainly seemed the case now, the three rainbows made it… two traditional colours and five new ones, one of which was totally new. He looked at the girls, wondering who would be lucky enough to Impress these three dragons.
Newat looked sideways at his brother, trying to make sure Navarro wasn’t frightened or about to do something that might get him eaten by Renth. Thankfully his older brother, whom many would think the younger, was still beside Newat and gazing at the just hatched dragons with pure adoration in his face. Navarro noticed Newat looking at him and gave him a big excited smile; Newat smiled back and hoped nothing would happen to wipe that look off his brother’s face.
Satisfied that his brother was still there and fine Newat turned his attention back to the dragons just in time to see a deep forest green Impress to one of the boys and the three eggs that had surrounded the queen egg spill out small multi coloured dragons, as if they wanted to follow their sister now.
Navarro tried to watch every dragon at once, the first one was really pretty and must be special because everyone had been very interested in him. Then the pretty gold had hatched, and one of the female blues had hatched too and shouted so loud everyone could hear her. Navarro giggled to himself, that was funny. No sooner had the green he was watching Impressed than the three smallest eggs hatched together showing, in Navarro’s opinion, the prettiest dragons yet, they were very small but they made up for that by being the brightest coloured dragons hatched. Navarro looked around at the grown dragons for a matching one, how would they look when they were grown up?
Hessa tapped her foot on the sand, not really noticing she was doing it. A quick glance around as she came in told her two things, she was probably the oldest girl here, and her fathers were here somewhere in the stands, she couldn’t see Y’san and In’al in the crowd but their dragons, probably the only greens who would share a ledge, were easy to spot. She didn’t want to disappoint them again.
Once the eggs started hatching it was easy to forget that her fathers were watching her but as each new dragonet hatched and Impressed Hessa lost a little more hope, even while there were still more than half the eggs left unhatched.

Kamara glared slightly at the girl that had impressed the queen and then turned to stare at the new little rainbows. It wouldn't be too bad to impress a rainbow. She had heard that they were almost like small queens. Kamra wouldn't mind one of those...

The three Rainbows somehow managed to separate themselves. The largest of the three was the first to move towards the candidates. Instead of going towards the girls, he marched up to one of the boys, sure in his choice. Narikeez! I am Raizeth. Will you feed me now? The voice was definitely masculine. Raizeth was the first male Rainbow.
One of the other Rainbows, whose body was almost all green and gold, seemed encouraged by her brother's Impression. She scurried to the girls, stopping in front of Damaskina. Damamine, will you feed me? I'm soooo hungry! Oh, my name is Petaloth.
The third Rainbow started to follow her sister to the candidates, but she didn't choose anyone. Her eyes began to whirl fast with alarm. She sniffed at Hessa and Tanale, but didn't seem to like them. Letting out a piteous creel, she started running to every candidate, clearly getting panicked. Renth rumbled, worried for her daughter.
The Crimson Bouquet egg hatched next, leaving bright red shell all around the sand. A small copper stepped out of the egg. Ignoring her sister, she ran to Kamara. Kamaramine, please feed your Florath.
The rest of the eggs were all rocking now, it seemed the Hatching would soon come to an end.
Tanale frowned, crossing her arms as she watched the rest of the eggs. Where was her dragon? Maylina had promised she would Impress!

Lithe wacthed Marakar as he walked away with the new colored dragon. This made him quite happy. Though it was soon after that moment that Lithe felt somthing nuzzle his hand and a voice that was diffently female speaking to him. He looked down and he found himself staring into the eye's of a green hacthling. No not 'a' green hacthling. It was his green hacthling. She was his Blumath and he was her L'the. He reached down and began to pet her head and said to her softly " Alright my love. Let's go get you some food." L'the could fell a sense of warmth and safety radiating off her. He felt turely safe for once in his life. She said to him Do not worry Mine. I will keep you safe. L'the smiled at her and said softly " I know you will my love. I know you will." He beileved her. With all his heart.
As he walked over toward the food he saw Marakar montioning him over and he headed in that direction with Blumath in tow. He soon reached the food and he began to feed Blumath. He looked at Marakar and asked him " So is it a he or a she." Lithe was not sure. It was a new color and though he seemed like a male. Lithe wanted to know for crentian.
