Malaracyth quietly thought to hers, I am clutching, I am clutching!Kelyna was overjoyed at this. Her dragon was finally having her first clutch. Kelyna ran down to the makeshift hatching sands to watch her gold clutch.
The first egg that Malaracyth clutched was an egg that looked like it held a dragon slightly bigger than a green dragon. It was a sky blue colored egg with little pink splotches and stripes all over it.
Kelyna comforted her dragon and told her dragon how proud she was as a second egg came out. This egg was huge! The dragon size had been getting bigger as the clutches got smaller, but this was bigger than any egg Kelyna had ever seen before, though she hadn't really seen that many clutching since they were so rare. This egg seemed to be a totally shiny black. Kelyna sent how proud she was to her dragon, but Malaracyth was looking at the egg funny. I don't believe this is a gold, she finally responded. She then pushed the egg over, away from where the rest of the clutch would be, but not where she would have put a gold egg. This scared Kelyna. Was there something wrong with her dragon’s eggs? Malaracyth replied, This egg just feels strange, not like its a dud or anything.Kelyna was thankful that at least it probably wasn't a dud, duds were so rare on Pern, with the five to six eggs hatched, that it almost meant that the queen had somehow had a failure when she clutched. Often times, people took duds as bad luck for that hatching group. Kelyna quietly left the sands to go get food, dragons often took a long time to have their clutches.
Malaracyth continued to clutch eggs for the next three days with a whopping total of fifteen eggs! This was an amazing amount of eggs for this time period. Candidates would need to be taken from throughout Pern to manage to have enough for this clutch to impress to people. Malaracyth's next egg was set to the side as a queen egg. Malaracyth knew that this one was definitely a queen. She then had an egg that could probably be classified as a medium size brown dragon egg. The fifth egg was smaller than the second egg but larger than a golden queen egg, and this one also got moved to the strange eggs grouping. The next egg looked like it was a very small green egg, yet Malaracyth didn't even hesitate to put this egg in the strange egg pile. The seventh egg came and it seemed like it would be either a small blue or large green, and was a regular egg. The next egg came, and it too looked to be the size of a green, though this one looked like a regular green. The ninth egg looked like it was probably a blue or brown. Then, she clutches an egg that looked like it will be a bronze. Everybody was thoroughly amazed as these last five come, it was a huge clutch. The eleventh, twelfth, and thirteenth eggs are small and probably green. The fourteenth egg is probably blue and the fifteenth looks like it will hold a brown, but these are just guesses, though eggs have become sort of predictable in sizes.
