The Weyr was growing, at all levels. Humans, dragons, it was a far cry from the handful of riders and their relatives who had first come here.
His blue on his shoulder, C'lyn made his way through the evening meal crowds, balancing a tray as he found a quiet table to sit at. Not that it would stay that way. His presence alone would be more than enough to ensure a steady stream of people who wanted five minutes with the Weyrleader. He momentarily considered taking his tray to his weyr.
Nah. He would brave them, he should every now and then anyway. It did people good to feel their leaders were accessible. So, he settled down to wait.
And watch.

And'l quietly found his way into the dining hall. As he was quite good at he would go unnoticed in a crowd. He looked at Leaf and she quickly took of to find her pet a table that was mostly unoccupied. She found her way to the table the Weyrleader was sitting at and touched down. She chirped to him and his blue while she waited for her pet to show up. Sure egough And'l was soon did though he showed up in a way were his presence would go unknown till he was actually seated and he sat to C'lyn " Greetings."

C'lyn smiled at the bluerider. This was the painfully shy kid, from what he remembered, and it was good to hear him initiating conversation.
"Hello, And'l. How is your Hexeth?" He had yet to see much of the young blue. He had heard little about the pair, so assumed they were doing alright, neither exceptionally well nor always in trouble.
Azure just chirped to And'l, and then louder to Leaf. Hi, green! that chirp said, quite clearly, even if she didn't seem to be at all close to rising.
She was still pretty!

And'l looked at the little blue flit that sat on the table and said to it " Hi Azure." Leaf flew down off his shoulders to land next to the blue to chatter with him. And'l then turned his attention back to Weyrleader and awsered his question " Hexeth is doing fine. He is being his usal self and is ethier problary hiding somewhere, or he is sitting curl up with Tombath like he usally does." While he said all this his eyes had not meet those of the weyrleader's and then he looked at the man and asked " Has my brother informed you about what was found out form a cerntain gold weyrling? I had told him and he was going to tell you and I was wondering if he has yet."

C'lyn arched an eyebrow. "I haven't spoken to Bamre since his dragon was injured at the Gather, I figured he was busy getting Purth back to fighting strength."
Not a terrible injury, no, but the white had been briefly grounded, and probably lost some muscle tone. It would take time to get him back up to one hundred percent. Fortunately, they had that time, as Thread had not yet returned.
C'lyn still had faith that it would. Why else the huge clutches?

And'l looked at him curiously for a moment and then said " Well then it is up to me to tell you." He puased and then countied " Well about a sevenday ago I found our newest gold weyrling curled up with her dragon. She seemed really siad about somthing, so I asked her. It took a few mintues, but when I pursade her to tell me she reveled somthing. She said that she was a spy sent here by the high council to see what we are doing. She has to report back to them through her contact though who that is I don't know. Though it is safe to assume she is not the only one." He then went on to explain " The reason she told me is that she and her dragon have been exiled form the high counicl becuase her dragon comes form Renth's clucth and they don't want the mutatuions to spread. So any clucthing dragons who were impressed to a spy that person was exiled, she said that it was the newest decree by the high council. Meaning we could have a few more come forward. I don't think she should be punished becuase she revealed this to us, plus punishing spies only makes the exiled ones less likly to come forward." And'l looked at the weyrleader for his reaction. And'l was really only telling him the things that Bamre had planned on telling him anyway.

C'lyn nodded. "And besides, she is a queenrider now. Her dragon binds her to the Weyr. I will talk to her."
They could not 'punish' her as spying would deserve, her dragon was too valuable. Which left winning her loyalty, and after what her masters had done, that should not be hard...especially with Kilith to appropriately flatter the young queen.
He lifted a hand. "Talk, I promise. Nothing more, nothing less. We do need to know where she stands. However, with nowhere else to go..."

And'l nodded. He blieved the Weyrleader when he said that he would not punish the girl. Besides they needed all the clucthing dragons that they could get and if the council wanted to give them a few with there foolish decree, then that was fine with him. He looked at him saying " Don't worry I bileve you. I think that we should be mercyful to any spy who comes fowrad. Espiecally those with clucthing dragons. Plus if it is obvious they will be loyal. Though in my opintion this information should be kept as secert as possiable. You would not want to spread fear and suspision among the weyr. It would only give the high council what they want, plus if we find out who some spies are, we can poissably feed false information."

C'lyn nodded. "True, but I also want to give them a chance to come forward." Could the gold weyrling be asked to be a double agent, or would that be a little much, pushing at her. She was already in a painful position, but then, she had put herself there in many ways.
He tugged a piece of hide out of his pocket. The person he needed was Sands bound right now, so he started to scribble a brief note. "The only known clutchers are golds, blacks and rainbows. We can't be sure on the sapphires and coppers yet." He did not know whether to hope they did, which meant more dragons or did not, which meant less problems getting Candidates.

And'l nodded and said " I believe that they will come foward in time, though we can't speard distrust among the weyr. It is the last thing we want. Though we do know that any clucthing dragon is now stuck here with us, so all of them will be able to have there loltay changed very quickly, as will any Shappire's and Coppers. We may not know if they can clucth, but it is obvious the conciul will never appect them back. So really that only narrows it down to figuring out who the spies are among the normal non-culcthing colors. Those are the ones that will be the biggest threat and will not be found out so esay." And'l looked at the Weyrleader thoughtfully. Him and his brother had already talked this over among themselves, so And'l had been perpared to discuss it in his brothers place.

C'lyn nodded. "How many people know about this? The fewer the better."
Because the best thing to do with a spy was to leave him or her in place and give incorrect information. Of course...
"Did she tell you what the council expected her to find out?" There weren't exactly that many *secrets* here, except for the wing drills that they took care never to do over the mainland. For now. When Thread came back, then they would have to protect those not ready for it as well as those that were.

And'l looked at the man as he said " Well the only people who know are me, my brother and Uu'ian, of course I think Bamre might tell Tirylnna eventully. Becuase Renith could help us figure out if any of the rainbow riders are spies, just by talking to the dragons. I am not sure if it will work, but it is worth a try. As for what the council is trying to learn the only thing that I can see would be what we are telling the people around here. It was obvious the gold weyrling was a spy as a candidate also, so she problery reported on candidate lessons and things like that. To see what kinds of 'prapoganda' we are feeding the people around here about thread coming back. So maybe they can form a arguement against it or find somthing to use aginst us. I am not sure, but remember spies don't just have to be information gather's. They can also be turned into assiasan's. Though wethier or not the concuil is willing to go that far. I am not sure."

C'lyn considered that. "Those capable of cold blooded murder seldom Impress. The ones we would have to worry about on that front are those who remain Candidates." He was especially certain that a rainbow would not choose somebody like that...they tended to choose people who were, on the face of it, nice. Of course, rainbows were...he wasn't sure, but they were almost, but not quite, queens. Weird, in the Weyrleader's mind. Dragons that small should not, really, act like rankers. Maybe that was what had the conservatives on the Council so upset and confused. OOC ReInth. How many times do I have to tell you?

OCC: Sorry somtimes I just forget. And'l nodded and considered this thought, though that still did not mean that there was not a threat of such a thing happening. He looked at the Weyrleader and said " Still it is just somthing you might want to wacth out for, not saying that you need to worry, just keep a better eye on your surrondings. For all we know, the conicul could have spies among those who are not canadidates and therefore it would not matter if they are able to impress or not. Though that opens so many possiabltlys that I say it would be to much of a stress to try and prevent such a act, the best thing that we can do is keep a eye out for anyone acting out of the ordinary. Though really anyone who I can think of that they would want to get rid of is too well protected to be able to have one person kill them that esaily." And'l pondered these thoughts. He knew that these where remote chances, but at this point in the Weyr's growth, they really would not need the loss of cerntain key people.

C'lyn nodded. "And with luck, we will have more wherhandlers soon...I think we should carefully vet anyone presented to an egg. Whers are, after all, capable of killing humans."
Which made them incredibly useful if there was conflict with the council, but also the last thing they wanted in the hands of an infiltrator. "And fortunately, most of our key people are riders. It's harder to take out a rider."
