The Wicked Witch of the West is dead, but this isn't the good news that the Ozians assumed it was. With the death of the Wicked Witch, the force that had kept Oz unified is gone, leaving Glinda alone to deal with the Ozians. The Wizard is nowhere to be found, and Morrible is locked up in Southstairs.
In Munchkinland, the Munckins have united under one banner to chase vengeance for the death of the Wicked Witch of the East. Under the power of a newly elected governor, the previously unknown Scott Talvern, the munchkins have been whipped into a frenzy, claiming that the Wizard, and by association, Glinda, sacrificed the former ruler for their own means, namely, the murder of the Wicked Witch of the West. He is using the death of the hated Witch as a unifying banner that could spell series problems for all the land.
Not to be outdone, the Vinkuns are making their own cries of treachery. Claiming that the now deceased Captain of the Gale Force, Fiyero Tiggular (who was a Winkie, or Vinkun prince) was also murdered by the Ozian government in an attempt to weaken the Vinkus and thusly gain even more power. Though the Vinkun government is not officially taking this stance, a large number of the people are, setting the group up for a collision course that could lead to coup or civil war, being fed by tribal disputes dating back hundreds of years.
Quadling Country is not seen as a particularly important area, as usual, however there are murmurings of people meeting in secret for some unknown reason. What is going on in the swamplands is still unclear, but like most of Oz, it seems to be plunging into turmoil, possibly finally making the marshland a important territory to everyone, not only it's residents.
Gillikin and Shiz are going forward with business as usual, with the normal problems and normal solutions cropping up. Shiz is embroiled in the normal challenge of balancing academic tradition with forward thinking research, though to the happiness of (most) people, Animals have been reinstated as professors. The most important research going on at the moment is a study to determine a way to restore speech to Animals who had lost the skill.
The Emerald City is as tense as ever, with everyone having an opinion on how best to handle the problems all over Oz. No one is more stressed then those who work in the seat of the government, with the Good Witch and her advisers hurtling ever closer to disaster. The tension in the city and the palace is growing to record levels, and the question becomes, who will crack first?
Of course, there is always a shadow on the horizon begging the question of how much is true and how much is fabricated. Where does the true threat lie, and when it is discovered, will it be too late?
Follow the yellow brick road, step into Oz, because we'll be the greatest team there's ever been.
