♥ Van ♥
Name: Derevan
{dah-rey-vahn}
{Van.}
**{D'van}
Age: 17 Turns
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Homosexual
Rank: Journeyman Harper
{Shocking, I know.}
Family: A non-blood-related "Aunt Sara," twin sister Kora
Pets: Van is constantly adopting animals--if you want to fall asleep, just ask him to tell you about all the pets he's had. But, currently, none.
Physical Appearance: Van got all the feminine genes Kora was supposed to get--and she got all of Van's masculine ones. He's petite and pretty with big blue eyes framed by long lashes, soft pink lips and a smooth chin and slightly round cheeks; just enough to give him a "cute" look. His shoulders are slim, his hands small and delicate, and he even has a bit more curves than Kora. He always wears his hair short, refusing to let it grow out, but no one will ever cut it as short as he wants. The delicate golden curls and waves reach to his chin on the sides, though they were cut shorter, at different lengths, around his face so he can see--and so that everyone else can see his cherubic face. He is prettier than most girls and, because he's so small, always wear baggy clothing which really doesn't help.
{Note about his hands: While it's true they're "small and delicate," he actually has rather long fingers, which helps with playing instruments. He has the callouses on his fingers to show just how much he practices, but his hands are still soft thanks to his great, undying love of lotions/oils.}
Personality: Van hates being so girly and resents every boy who tries to flirt with him and every girl who thinks he's "one of them." However, thanks to his girlish appearance he can walk about with a boy, even hand-in-hand--or even go into that boy's room--and no one questions it, which has worked out well. He's more experienced in the area of romance than Kora--which is one of the only things about him she doesn't know.
His personality could be described as that of a small dog; cute and sweet, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have teeth. From watching Kora, and even sparring with her when they got into arguments, Van has gotten to be a decent fighter--which has saved him and his girlish appearance more than once.
He chose to become a Harper simply because a very cute journeyman--who he had a... romance with--told him he had a good voice.
Even when he lost his soprano voice, he still kept a lovely tenor and became skilled at most instruments--though he refused to learn anymore than the basics in drums.
Unlike the ever-difficult Kora, Van tends to be a rather eager student who never does anything half-heartedly(not that Kora does; she puts her whole heart into blatantly refusing to do her work) and always loves to get praised. He's a bit more childish than most in some areas, but it fits him.
History: Saravilla Druvirn--Sara--found Kora and Van in a burned down wagon on the side of the road, having heard the familiar crying of a baby. Inside the wagon was an ornate basket in which the children slept, along with many expensive looking things that had been burnt beyond recognition, as well as what was left of Kora and Van's parents. She heard rumors about a high-ranking(though not overly notable) family having gone missing, but never did find out for sure who they were.
As an experienced midwife, Sara accurately guessed the babies to be around a year old when she found them, and it was easy to see they were twins. For the first ten Turns of their lives, Kora and Van were inseparable. They ate together, slept together, played together, even cried together. When one got hurt, the other one always knew, no matter how far apart they were. When Kora got in a fight at age seven, Van knew and told Sara to go break it up, knowing it was because of him.
When he was little, Sara put him in a dress--just for fun--and Kora in boy's cloths, and it all went down hill from there. They were young and Kora doesn't remember it, but he does; it was the first time everyone treated him like a girl, though Sara and Kora were just "playing along." As he got older, boys had crushes on him and girls either shunned him or acted like he was "just another girl." As he got older, his peers would pick on him and some even went so far as to try to put dresses on him. Sara didn't know it, but the first time Kora got in a fight was because she heard boys talking bad about her brother; she ended up getting her butt whupped by the boys, but she did enough damage to them that they didn't mess with her or Van for quite a while.
The two of them never lost their "connection." Unfortunately, that meant Van could never not tell his sister when someone picked on him. Every time someone tried to mess with him and he started to cry--he did so easily--, Kora would come sweeping in and "teach them a lesson." However, when she went to train as a Healer and Van as a Harper, there was no one to protect him and he had to learn how to defend himself--or at least find someone who would protect him. That was how he first became homosexual, and how several boys found out why they weren't particularly interested in girls.
When he first heard about the new weyr and hold, he ran right to Kora to tell her about it. Of course, she was skeptical but he had his secret weapon that always worked on her; puppy dog eyes, tears and a threat to do something dangerous by himself. Needless to say, they were off for Allride Weyr in a matter of days.
If Candidate:
What they hope to impress: Of course he wants something manly, but at the same time he kind of wants something really cute... In other words, he's as fickle as they come.
Read: Of course
Write: Like a natural
Figure numbers: Not very well; no matter how much he studies, he just can't understand numbers.
Family For Impression: {Yeah, still don't know what to put here... Sorry.}

{{Sorry about how I had it before. Hope this is right, though your history and such confuses me so there's probably issues...}}
