‘What are you doing Tuinth?’ Idara asked, looking curiously at her dragon, the gold dragon was lying on her side, flailing about happily in the sand, a glittering mountain of champagne and antique gold against the paler matt sand of the beach.
I’m a hatchling again! The young gold replied, lifting her head from the sand and eyeing her chosen. Tuinth tended to keep her dignity within the Weyr but she seemed to be convinced no one but her rider could see her out here and she did like to play. She liked hatchlings too, maybe hers would let Tuinth get a little canine or feline soon. They were very nice, but Idara always said that since she would be the one who had to feed, exercise, and clean up after a pet Tuinth couldn’t have one. The gold had tried to argue the point numerous times but to no avail. And hers totally refused to have a hatchling of her own, it just wasn’t fair!
Tuinth thumped her tail against the sand a couple of times, as if that would make an expression other than bemused amusement appear on her rider’s face and sighed heavily, dropping her head and tail back into the sand and wriggling around some more.
Idara shook her head and turned away from her dragon, it was sometimes hard to believe that was a mature queen and the first love of Idara’s life flopping around in the sand. The girl folded gracefully down onto the sand and stared out at the waves. She was much more noticble than her dragon, at least from a distance, since she was dressed in a bright sapphire shirt and black trousers that made her skin look pale and dead. Idara never did have any sense when it came to choosing colours, she liked bright.
