The eggs were rocking and the queen began to hum. It was the hum that would alert most of the people within the weyr to come to the hatching. For the candidates and for the weyrleader Malaracth called ou to them, Come all ye! My clytch hatches! Come and behold their splendor!
The egg that rocked the hardest was the shadow egg. It would hatch soon.

Narine and Fayired both rushed to get their robes on before racing to the hatching grounds. Neither wanted to be late for this hatching and they entered the cavern together and both bowed to the golden queen. Then they went to stand with the rest of the candidates in their respective groups.

C'lyn stepped out onto the sands, moving over to his mate. The Weyrleader skirted the rocking eggs very carefully, not wanting to get too close. Kilith had already made his own entrance, settling carefully to the side of the Sands.
The soft hum that came from his throat was echoed from the dragon ledges and, soprano, from a myriad of firelizard throats.
A good clutch. And today, they would become good dragons. C'lyn finally just stepped over to his dragon and sat on a conveniently crooked foreleg...a bit off the heat of the Sands themselves.

The shadow egg burst apart with a grand entrance into the world and producing a reddish colored brown. The brown looked around but it couldn't seem to find its person. He walked around stubling, and he just couldn't seem to find his. Mine, where are you!He screamed with his mind to all the people present. He could feel his so he didn't go between, but he couldn't seem to find his on the sands. His hadn't replied to the mental call. Where was his?
Malaracyth was worried. All of her children should impress. Why was this brown having trouble finding his? Where were the rest of teh candidates? The eggs were hatching and there were only a few candidates standing around. Malaracyth hoped that the brown's call would bring the rest soon.

Zamora sniffed, albeit quietly, at Malaracyth’s voice in her mind. What an ego trip. Mind you if she was gold dragon who’d clutched more eggs in the past few years than the other queens had in about the last ten, maybe Zamora would have a giant ego too. Although then she wouldn’t be Zamora would she, she’d be Zamorath, or something. The girl snorted at her own thoughts, as she looked for the robe she’d been assigned and shoved it over her head.
As she ran, or attempted to run anyway the sandals kept tripping her up, Zamora wondered how they washed these stupid robes. The first thing that happened to them after someone Impressed was that they fed their dragon bits of raw meat, surely that was murder on the white garments, particularly as dragon weren’t known as neat eaters.
And sandals! Zamora added that to her list of complaints as she nearly entered the hatching ground by falling in on her face. Who thought of that? Seriously, you could barely move in them and they’d protect you from the notorious heat of the sands about as well as- Zamora’s thought broke off abruptly as a second dragon voice made itself heard. This one somehow sounded younger, male, and upset. It prompted her to step (carefully) onto the hatching sands, bow with as much respect as she could muster to Malaracyth, and look around as she scurried into place. A brown… ah well maybe the next dragon would be something a girl could Impress. She certainly hoped that brown’s boy got his sorry backside here soon.
Zamir had to positive sprint back over to the barracks to collect his hatching clothes, if he’d been any further away he would have actually been at the hold, and what a disaster that would have been, he’d probably miss the whole hatching that way.
Right, robe on? Check. Sandals? Check? Hair not looking like straw stack, face not covered in food? Check. Time to go then, shame he couldn’t take some his drawing stuff with him, he would have loved to try and capture all those hatchlings as they emerged from their eggs. He’d just have to try and remember it all and try and put it on paper later. He was pretty sure no one would mind him trying to draw their dragon later.
Zamir loped across the seemingly endless space between barracks and hatching ground as fast as his attire would allow, and the call of a lost dragon only spurred him on. So it was that Zamir arrived at the hatching sands at a dead run and skidded to a halt just outside so that he could step in the entrance and bow with dignity.

Fayired watched as the first egg literally burst open to reveal a reddish brown that stumbled around, seeming unable to find his chosen. Then the scream in his mind and, if the reactions were anything to go by, everyone else's minds had him wince in sympathy. Come on little one. You can find them. He urged the brown mentally, not even sure if the dragonet could hear him. He just didn't want to see the dragonet, any dragonet, go between.
Over with the girls, Narine was thinking along the same lines as her brother yet she wasn't brave enough to aim her thoughts at the dragonet. Neither of the twins wanted to see any dragonets between.

The shadow found his as his stepped onto the sands. Mine Zamora, where were you. I was worried when you weren't here for your Binagoonganth. The dragon nuzzled Zamora and then with its worry gone, its stomach got the best of it.
Mine, my stomach hungers. The little reddish brown hatchling told his Zamora.
With that, the first impression was succesfully made. It was a good thing, to see and impression made so neatly. The everybody heard a hiss and saw that the small twisted egg had silently released its bruden. The dragon was a small hissing green. She look the candidates over in careful detail. Her twisted mind looked for hers, a silent killer. Where was he? He had been sent to kill the weyrwoman, but he came out of the shadows when the twisted green called to him, My M'rim, your Laingth wants you. Mine, we can kill together, but now is not a good time to kill. Killing will have to wait, but the time will be soon. Now though, you will feed me. Later when I am grown, we can feast upon the blood of our enemies.
M'rim came out of the shadows in joy to feed his dark green Laingth. Yes, she would help him acheive the impossible. What no one noticed was that in the shadowed sections of Laingth's body there were blood red streaks of coloration.
The twisted dragon scarred Kelyna and Malaracyth. They had not seen the man in the corner.
Hellia wandered if her skills were down when the twisted impressed the man from the shadows. She and Hellisk were there, ready to strike, but at the moment nothing seemed wrong. The man spoke up, "I am M'rim, and this is Laingth."
A cracking sound was heard, and the bread egg broke open with cracks all over it and a hole where a dragon snout was poking through. The dragon finished busting its way out of the egg to reveal a copper, or maybe a brown. It was hard to tell before the dragon impressed.
Egg: Shadow Egg Rider: Zamora Name: Binagoonganth (Binagoongan is part of the name of a phillipine food dish) Color: Reddish Brown with dark shadows on the wing membranes (use brown for color code) Personality: This is a dragon who likes to take to the shadows and then suddenly burst out into the the spotlight. Once he is in the spotlight though, he is quite ready to go back to the shadows and wants nothing more with the spotlight. He gets frightened when his is not close to him and he is scarred of humans that are not his. If his says a human is ok, then he will accept them, but shyness is his main characteristic in this. Even with these odities, he is an extremly sensible dragon and very dependable.
(Laingth is adoptable, but you had better be willing to get involved with this character, she might become very important...) Egg: Twisted egg Rider: Assasin M'rim (Heterosexual man) Name: Laingth Color: Dark green with blood red streaks of coloration hidden in the shadows of her body (code: 003300) Personality: She is a blood thirsty twisted dragon. Dragons are normally pasifists and will not fight each other, but Laingth loves killing and death. She protective of hers, and her twisted mind sees all others as enemies, but her mind is aslo devious, and she formulates plans that are long and complicated but keep her and hers from being discovered. She is an extremly intelligent dragon in a twisted way. She is sardonic and twisted.
Shadow egg: Brown Binagoonganth impressed to Zamora Aluminum egg: Twisted egg: Green Laingth impressed to assasin M'rim Egg egg: Sea egg: Bread egg: Potatoe egg: Silver egg: Emu egg: Lettuce egg: Pink egg:

Both twins watched as the brown finally impressed to a girl that came in after them, both were glad tha he had found it's rider. Then suddenly a hissing caught their attention and both their gazes flew to the second egg that had hatched and the green that had emerged from it. It was a very dark green and Narine held her breath until it impressed to a man in the shadows. Once again their attention was caught by another egg as it hatched, leaving either a brown or copper on the sands. Just which it was, they were unsure but both silently urged it to impress.

Mine Zamora, where were you. I was worried when you weren't here for your Binagoonganth. Zamora just looked at the brown hatchling for a moment, which stretched out and became several moments, of silence as dragon and human locked eyes. It was broken by Binagoonganth. Mine, my stomach hungers.
‘Look, you’re very clearly a brown, so I can’t be yours.’ Zamora tried to explain quietly to the obviously confused dragon. ‘You must have me confused with someone else. Maybe my brother, he looks a bit like me but he’s a lot taller.’ Binagoonganth’s eyes whirled confused colours for a moment before settling on red.
It is you who is confused. You are Mine, not your clutchmate. He is some other’s. I think. Can I have food now? Binagoonganth nuzzled at his chosen again and tried to give Zamora a poke in the right direction.
‘Alright, fine. But seriously, Binagoonganth? Could you have a longer name? Did you pick it just to be annoying?’ Zamora grumbled, striding off with the young brown following in her wake.
It is my name.
Zamir grinned like a maniac and fought an urge to do a mad capering dance across the sands, and not just because his feet were burning. That was the best of all possible results, the brown had clearly found his rider, even if Zamora was arguing with him, and Zamora had her dragon. Okay it was a brown, not really what he expected but Zamir was no expert on such matters.
As his sister so clearly lost her argument and led her dragon from the sands, or rather stalked off and left the brown to follow, Zamir’s attention refocused. He’d already missed the hatching of the hissing green from her strangely coloured egg, and she slipped into the shadows to Impress a man Zamir hadn’t noticed at all.
The next egg had a muzzle poking out, brown in colouration, though whether it belonged to a copper or another brown Zamir couldn’t guess t this stage. He’d just have to wait like everyone else he supposed.

C'lyn watched...he did not like the look of the blood splattered green. The weyrlingmaster might well have his hands full with that pair.
And then the brown picked a girl. That did not happen very often...and he had expected it less often now there were coppers...the last female brownrider type he had seen had been chosen by one of those.
Well, they chose as they chose, and the girl would do well enough. He had not seen much of her, and now she seemed a little confused. Expected a female, no doubt.
She would do well enough.

(sorry this is so short...) Then the Emu egg and the Aluminum egg broke together. The Emu egg released a bulky blue colored beast with a thick build that could be nothing other than a blue. The Aluminum egg released a graceful small blue colored dragon.
The little Aluminum wove through the candidates like a snake until she cam to hers, My Fayired. Your Menudoth has come for you.
The bread continued to just sit there. It looked slightly confused, as if it didn't know wat to do.
The Bulky Emu though knew what it was doing. It trudged over to a pudgy boy ans said, My G'jar, Your Sinigangth is here for you. Have any food?
Then, the big egg of the clutch hatched, it was the silver. It starred at the candidates and then went to nudge the little bread.
The bread looked at the stands shyly and whispered Mine, do you really not want me? I can go between if you don't want me. Your Embutidoth doesn't have to be a bother to you.
The silver then went over to the egg egg and nudged it. An indignatn bronze broke out of the egg screaming to his, MINE! Igadoth pushed me! Can you punish the bugger for me my S'rameal? Your Ukoyth doesn't like being pushed. It offends my pride! I do have appearnaces to keep up you know!

Fayired watched as two eggs broke almost in unison, both releasing blue coloured dragonets and a small smile flitted on Fayired's face. His gaze remained on the one that started moving through the candidates uptil it came to him and he smiled brightly until he heard the definate female voice. My Fayired. Your Menudoth has come for you.
Fayired stared down as the obviously blue dragon, yet it had a female voice. How in Faranth's name had he impressed a female dragon? It was unthinkable to him. Menudoth nudged Fayired's hand and crooned softly. Fayiredmine, my middle hurts. Can you feed me please? Fayired broke out of his thoughts with that small request and knelt to hug the dragonet to him. How could he refuse his dragon? Simple, he couldn't.
"Of course my dear Menudoth. Lets get you fed." He said aloud, turning his head to smile at his sister, who smiled back with pride. Fay, no, he was F'red now. F'red stood and lead the dragonet towards the food.

Suddenly it seemed to Zamir that there were dragons everywhere, the brown hatchling finally made it out of the roundish bread coloured egg, but it just sat there, as if it wasn’t really sure what to do.
The two blue hatchlings seemed to know what they were about though, both making their way through the candidates to pick out their boys without a hitch. Opposite in looks but similar in their sense of purpose.
Then, as if those three almost at once weren’t enough, the big silver egg split apart, leaving a silver hatchling standing in the shards. His purpose, too, was clear, but he didn’t go and find his rider right away. Instead he nudged the confused hatchling that still sat on the sands. Apparently whatever passed between the two of them was important, because the smaller dragon picked out one face in the crowd and her eyes whirled with the rainbow of Impression.
His purpose there complete the silver moved on to poke at the egg the resembled a giant chicken egg, right as a bronze burst out of it, apparently he objected to his brother for some reason, because he certainly seemed to be complaining to his newly bonded rider.
Zamir wondered if the silver intended to see all his clutchmates Impress before he got on with it. Of course if they kept coming like that he’d only be waiting a few more minutes. What would hatch from the other four eggs? Zamir’s money was on more greens, they were the most common dragons on Pern and so far, there’d only been one. Maybe that silver had an eye for the greens already.

Zisan came running onto the sands, panting and pulling his too-long candidate robe up to his knees so he wouldn't trip on it. He had gotten distracted before the Hatching by the empty candidate barracks, which surely had so many valuable strewn about it. Fortunately--for the other candidates, at least--he had managed to resist, but the cost was that he was now horribly late.
Blushing, he joined the other candidates with a nervous glance at Malacryth. Hopefully she wasn't too angry at him. It looked like several eggs had hatched already, but there were still a few left. There was a Silver wandering, too. Maybe he still had a chance.

Next, the silver went to the sea egg and gently nudged it. A madened blue twisted out of the egg and started screaching at his larger silver covered brother.
The silver just ambled over to the next egg. It gave the pink egg a strange look and walked over to the lettuce egg. The Sea blue was still squwaking about the indignity of being nudged out of its egg.
The lettuce egg seemed to break with a soft sigh allowing a minty gree dragon to come out. The green looked at the silver with a gentleness, and then she gave a small movement of her head before starting to look at the candidates.
While the lettuce was looking around the silver went to the potatoe egg. The silver seemed to glare at the egg and then the egg started to crack in one main fracture and other fractures ventured out. The egg shook and finally a bulky brown worked its way out. The potatoe brown was the color of rich soil and one of the ungliest and bulkiest browns to be built. It was short and pudgy and had an aloof air to it it glarred at the candidates. It glarred at them as if darring them to think of it as ugly.
The silver looked at the three and at the unhatched pink egg. It then looked longingly over at the boys. The Sea blue was still nagging at it, but it wanted its Zamir.
Mine Z'mir, I tired to help my brothers and sisters, but your Igadoth was getting too hungry. One of my siblings wouldn't hatch. It told me that it wanted to wait. I decided not to wait because I wanted to come to you.
