The weyrleader of Allride had absolutely no dignity right now. Although he was dressed in his Gather best, he was currently to be found completely distracted by...a sideshow.
Specifically, he was trying to throw a ball into a bucket. And, given he was an experienced bronzerider used to aerial refueling, you would think that he could achieve such a relatively simple task.
Nope. He had missed, now, six times in the row, and lost a full eighth mark in wagers.
"Maybe you need to do it from the back of a dragon," somebody teased.
C'lyn laughed. "Maybe I do." He should be able to do this.
"Or having drunk less good Benden red."
At that he colored a little...he was not exactly drunk, but he certainly had indulged.
He didn't even notice anyone else who might be approaching the little stall.

Why is he throwing that ball around? Isn’t that a game for hatchlings? Idara restrained a giggle at the confused tone of Tuinth’s voice, golds were supposedly among the cleverest dragons, yet the simplest ideas seemed to be the ones that eluded Tuinth the most. It’s a contest Brightlove, he’s trying to win money by getting the ball in the bucket. she explained.
Is it working? Tuinth’s pointed inquiry came back. Not noticeably. Idara replied, weaving through the crowd for a better look, although she didn’t actually recall deciding to do so. The young queenrider leaned against the side of the stall and watched the weyrleader gloriously miss for the fifth or sixth time.
‘Maybe you should try giving up.’ Idara suggested mildly, fiddling with the hem of her emerald green shirt, which didn’t suit her but was one of her favourites.

C'lyn laughed a bit. "You'd think that with all the firestone throwing..." He stepped back, letting one of the weyrbrats take a turn.
The ten turn old promptly threw three balls into the bucket, and C'lyn flinched. "Maybe I'm just getting old."
Idara was the young goldrider, but C'lyn doubted Kilith would fly any queen other than the senior. Well, he might try, but there was a bond between the dragons that almost matched that between their riders...the bond that formed a stable leading pair.
And he had Karlyn, of course. Perhaps there would be another...and he was thinking that there was no reason not to let Karlyn Stand when the time came. Let the dragonets decide whether her handicap interfered with being a rider.
