Getrara hated killing the tunnel snakes, but it needed being done. Tunnel snakes were bad and needed to be killed so that they wouldn't harm anyone in the weyr and make her job harder. Getrara went over to where they were supposed to get the supplies to start. She leaned down and picked up some stuff to kill tunnel snakes with. She wondered if maybe her green flit Asika could help kill the tunnel snakes.

Tirlynna was not fond of this particular task either. She glanced at Getrara. "Can your firelizard come? They're better at this than we are."
Firelizards seemed to have an instinctive hatred of tunnelsnakes...probably because the snakes were rather fond of dining on firelizard eggs. As well as stores, humans....the things would eat -anything-.

"Of course, I'll call her right now. I was thinking about bringing her because I had heard that flits were really good at killing tunnel snakes," Getrara said to Tirlynna. She then reached out her mind and showed a mind picture of a tunnel snake and then one of a flit killing it to Asika, maentally calling Asika in. Asika came shooting in at the first sign of tunnel snake hunting from her pet. Oh asika did love to kill those nasty evil little tunnel snakes.

Tirlynna grinned. "Hey there, firelizard...what's her name?" She had the tools she needed, but she still bet the green would beat out both of them for kills.
Plus, oddly, the winged presence made her feel better about the entire task.

"Hello, all," Andicher greeted his fellow canditates as he walked toward the supplies. His footsteps echoed slightly in the dry cavern-like air. He took a breath of it. It tasted rather stale, in his opinion. Not lively, like on the sea. He blinked, still half asleep, and hefted a few snares from the stocks of items. He was familiar with how to set them. He'd had the task often in his life, putting them around where the elusive wild firelizards might have clutched. Should there be a clutch, the holders didn't want the eggs to be eaten before a few could be claimed for the humans to impress. He walked up to the other two, tilting his head, and said, "I don't think I've met either of you two before. I'm Andicher. May I ask your names?"

Melir was not looking forward to this. He forced himself to suck in deep, steady breaths as he warded off images of giant tunnel snakes coming up out of their holes to eat him. Of all the jobs he could have been assigned, this one had to be the worst. He reluctantly went to meet up with the other candidates by the supplies. He was glad to see that there was a firelizard with them. That would make the job a whole lot easier.
He gave the other candidates a shy smile. He knew Gertrara, but not the other two. "Hi, I'm Melir," he introduced himself, managing not to let his voice shake and show his nervousness.

"Hi everybody, I believe that we are just supposed to set out and find the tunnel snakes. Of anybody has done this before, they can lead because I sure haven't. Asika here is also going to help. She will make sure that no giant tunnel snakes try to eat us," Getrara said this as a joke, trying to calm everybody's nerves about killing tunnel snakes. Most of them were probably first timers like her, but there might be one or two more experienced people.

Eldan hurried up to the group of Candidates. He said, "I'm sorry, I'm a little late. I was exploring and got a little lost." He'd found a sharp, forked stick in his wanderings, however.
"You have to pin them with something before you kill them. I like a long stick, myself, I don't want to get bitten. Snares help too, but I'm not sure that there are any around here." Eldan told the others on tunnelsnake duty. He'd done this before and didn't want anyone to get hurt because they didn't know how to deal with the vermin.

Tirlynna indicated Andicher. "He found some. Long sticks are good, too." She felt a lot more relaxed now...and had absolutely no intention of being bitten. No way, no how.

Andicher was glad Tirlynna had stated his point for him. He wasn't fond of arguing, even in the form of debate. He turned in a circle, ending up facing the way he'd started, and said, "I guess we'll get on with it?"
