Teonie was restless and Teosk worse. The russethandler had thus made her way out on an extended patrol. Due to the distance, she sat easily on her wher's shoulders. The russet was large enough to carry her without her weight being a true issue, after all, and should it turn to combat, she knew exactly how to dismount quickly and without any risk to herself. She'd practiced the maneuver many times.
Teosk's stride had slowed to a prowl, padding along the edge of a darkened field, the crop within it waving slightly in the night wind. Of course, none of the farmers would be out this late, unless there were stray livestock or some other such concern.
It gave her time to think. About her wher, about her life...which she had come to realize was lacking in human companionship. She would never admit it out loud, but Teonie rather wanted...a friend.
Yes. A friend.
