Bamre sat on his bed in the barracks just staring at the wall. Purth was lying on his bed next to where Bamre was sitting. Diamond was perched on Bamre's shoulders with her tail relaxed around his neck while Iron and Emerald were playing around at the end of Bamre's bed on the floor. Bamre's thoughts whichever since he had got here were usually happy had soured. He could not figure out why, but they just had and it worried him. He then all of a sudden in anger took out his knife and threw it causing it to stabbed into the bed next to Bamre's. Purth looked up at Bamre with worry showing in his eyes and said Mine are you all right? Bamre then looked at the white dragon and said “Yeah I am ok." Purth then immediately replied No you are not Mine. Don't try and fool me I know you to well for that. Now tell me what is wrong. Bamre then replied " You are right my friend I am not ok. I don’t know why, but thoughts that I was certain Iron had helped me with are starting to come back and I don’t know why." Purth looked at his in alarm and said Mine you wouldn't do that again. You know I won’t let you. Bamre looked at Purth and said “I know you won't Purth. I know you won’t." By this time Iron and Emerald sensing Bamre's distress had come up onto his bed and were curled up beside him. Bamre reached down and began to pet the two firelizard. Purth then asked Bamre Why Mine would you think such things again? Bamre sighed and replied “I don’t know Purth. I just don’t know. Maybe I am stressed or something. Maybe I am too worried about the others and about everything." Purth just replied in a soothing voice You shouldn't feel this way Mine. I am here for you now and forever. You should tell someone Mine. Bamre replied with a hint of alarm in his voice “No I can’t do that Purth. I don’t want to worry them over me. Beside I can deal with it myself." Purth just got up and walked next to Bamre and nuzzled Bamre and said to him No Mine you don’t have to deal with it yourself. I will deal with it with you. Then the three firelizards chirped in agreement. Bamre just sat there for a second looking at all the creatures that he knew loved him so much then tears slowly feel form his eyes and turned into a river. He then got off his bed and wrapped his arms about Purth and just contuied to cry and Purth said to Bamre soothingly It will be ok Mine. I am here with you always.

"Are you alright?" came a soft and female voice. It was accompanied by the nose of a dragonet, the oddly colored Reinth. "Or would you rather we left you alone?"
Tirlynna could see how upset Bamre was. Having a dragon helped with depression, but did it eliminate it? She was fairly sure not. She was the same person she had always been. Tirlynna -plus- Reinth, everything her dragon was adding to everything she was. Even thinking of her dragon, though, brightened her.
Reinth was maturing too quickly, though, as were Renth and Zuiveth. They were growing -up- faster than the others, it wasn't just size. That bothered her...a little.

Bamre was suprised by Tirlynna showing up. He just looked up at her and said through his tears " Hello Tirlynna. Hello Reinth." He then wiped the tears from his eyes and said " Yeah I'm alright." Purth then said to Tirlynna and Reinth No he is not. He is just trying to hide it form you so you wont worry. Yet I worry Mine may hurt may hurt himself again. Bamre looked at Purth and said I asked you not to talk about it Purth. Purth then said to Bamre Mine I care for you too much not to tell someone. Bamre just sighed and looked back at Tirlynna and said " Yeah I would like you to stay." He then showed her his arm with the scars and said " This his what Purth was talking about, but dont worry I dont wont do that again." Yet his arm showed a differnt truth some of the scars were fresh. Very fresh. One or two could only had been at least a day old. Purth's eyes showed his extemre worry and the fact that though Bamre tried to hide it the little white dragon still knew what his rider had done to himself recently. He then said Mine why dont you just ask for help. Purth then said to Tirlynna and Reinth I know he very unhappy. Know matter what he says. Emerald then flew over to Tirlynna's shoulder and landed there and chriped at her as though in agreement to what Purth said. Diamond then rubbed her head aginst Bamre's cheek to comfort him while Iron came off the bed and curled himself aginst Bamre. Bamre then reached out to pet Reinth's head bettewen her eye rigdes in order to comfort himself.

Tirlynna dropped to sit down. "Are you worried that Thread is going to come back?" She was, and from what she'd observed, she'd be fighting it far sooner than Bamre and Purth, if it came back tomorrow.
Or maybe he was worried that the new colors and the white were a sign of something not quite...well...right with Pern, with the dragons, with the world. Reinth was perfect, but...

Bamre was silent for a few seconds then Purth nugded Bamre and said Mine this is your chance to talk about it with someone. Bamre sighed and said Your right Purth. He then said to Tirlynna " No I am not worried about Thread. Yes I know it will come back eventually, but with Purth at my side I am not worried about that." He then sighed and looked at Purth again then back at Tirlynna and said " I am just worried about you and all the others. I know I shouldn't and that that is not really my job, but I just do. Myabe I care to much. I dont know." Purth then said Mine I said you dont need to worry so much about the others they will be ok. You just need to worry about yourself. Bamre said " The only other thing I worry about so much is Pruth beyond that I dont no what I am so worried about." Purth then said Mine! You dont need to hurt yourself over worry for me! Purth then showed exterme worry in his eyes that was almost a look of fear. He then move and curled up aginist Bamre and just made soft wailing sounds that showed his worry. Bamre just reached down and began to pet the little white to try and comfort the dragon.

Tirlynna smiled. "It's Reinth's job to look after me, Bamre, not yours. We all have our partners, different as they are. You need to worry about Purth's and your hides first, -then- the rest of us. You can't help anyone if you're fretting."
She glanced at Purth and then at Iron. "We'll all look after each other, okay?"

Purth said Yes I agree. Then all three firelizards chriped in agreement. Emerald then flew to Bamre and sat in Bamre's lap. Bamre then sighed and reached over and picked up Iron so he could hold all his firelizards close and feel that they were there becuase he felt he was not. He felt Purth sitting close behind and he thought again knowing what he had to do. No matter what the others said he would gladly give his life to protect them. He would give his life to protect the firelizards in his arms and he would do to so to an even more extent to protect the thing that made him most happy. Purth. He realized that Purth would not want him to do such a thing, but he had to. He had to protect the place that made him happier than at any other time in his life. Yet he knew that if he kept up like this he would never be able to do that so he said " You two are right I would not be any help to anyone if I keep this up." These words undertoned his true reasons. Purth then said to Bamre Mine I know what you are thinking, but you dont have to do it. My brothers and sisters will take care of the others. Bamre knew Purth would not understand becuase the little white wanted only to protect him. He just turned and without thinking yelled at Purth " No I will not just sit around and wacth the only place I have ever been happy in be dystroyed! I will fight to protect it and to protect you!" The little white just looked at his rider. Purth was a little taken aback by the fact that his rider just yelled at him. Bamre looked at him and said " I am sorry Purth I did not mean to yell at you." Purth repiled to Bamre It is okay Mine. You know I forgive you. I understand your not feeling well. Bamre then shook his head and said " No Purth there was no excuse for what I did. You were just trying to help me and I yelled at you and I am sorry." Purth then crooned in affection for Bamre and nuzzled him and Bamre just held the little white close and began to say while fighting back tears " Its just... Its just... Oh Purth I just dont want to lose you." Tears began to pour form his face. Purth then said Mine you are not going to lose me. I will not leave you. Bamre then repiled " I know you won't Purth. Its just... Its just... I dont want you to die." Bamre then realized he had reached the root of the problem. He feared for Purths life. Purth said soothingly to Bamre Mine I wont die. I will stay here with you and help you be happy. Bamre heard Purth say the words with such assurance, but Bamre had heard that before a long time ago even tho the words were his own they had been about somthing about he had loved very much. He then began to cry harder and said words as though he was talking to somthing. " Oh Steel I am so sorry I should have protected you. I should have been there. Why did I let you die for me." Purth said to Bamre Who was Steel Mine? What have you been hiding form me? Bamre then decied to tell, but he turned to Tirlynna and Reinth so they could know aslo. The three firelizards and Purth curled close to Bamre so to comfort him and through his tears he said " Iron was not my frist firelizard. I had a little blue named Steel. He was my best friend sinice I stayed away form people mostly. Until one day when some boys tried to beat me up. Steel sracthed some of them up and and then lead them away form me. The poor thing he did not know they had what they wanted form me and then they turned there anger on him. I found the little thing laying there on the ground dying. He was barly able to get out of my arm and he basically went bettween there in front of my eyes. The only friend I had ever had was dead. I cried till I could cry no more and that is what started my depression and me hurting myself. It was only when I impressed Iron that my mind was taken off Steel. Yet when Purth was born he reminded me so much of Steel in his small size and the way he acts that my depression came back. Don't get me worng Purth is the thing one thing in the world that makes me most happy. Yet it is a thing which cuts both ways." Bamre then wiped his tears and said to Purth " Please dont blame yourself my friend. I beg you not to." Then turned back to Tirlynna and said " It's just I miss that little firelizard so much. I feel as though sinice I failed Steel. That I could make it up by protecting Purth." Purth then made a soft wail and said Oh Mine why did you not just tell me. I love you and I would have helped you carry that burden. Bamre then said " Purth I could not ask you to do that." Purth then put his wing on Bamre's back and Bamre looked down at the little white and into it's eyes which were filled with so much love for him and Purth said to Bamre Yes you could Mine. Becuase you are Mine and I am yours and that is the way it will always be. I will always be here to help you and to love you. Bamre just repiled " Ok Purth I will be there to love you to." He then said as though speaking to his firelizards " I will be here for all of you." He then said to Tirlynna and Reinth " I will be there for you two and the others as well."
OCC: Sorry it is a little long. Once I got started I just could not stop.

Tirlynna reached a hand out to Bamre. "It's okay. I don't quite get it, I've never lost anyone like that, but it's Purth's job to look after -you-, remember. And he's going to be incredibly fast...and a tough little guy, too."
She glanced at the larger Reinth. They would have to accelerate their training. No choice on that front. At the rate she was maturing the rainbow would be mature by six months. Maybe it was some response to the shortage of dragons. If that guess was right, though, she'd still be smaller than a green.
That...suited Tirlynna just fine.

Purth said to Bamre She is right Mine. I will protect you there is no for you to protect me and I promise I wont let myself die as long as you are alive. Bamre repiled to the little white " Ok Purth I will try to stop worrying about you. It's just if you die. Then I die with you and thats final." Purth just looked at his for sec and said to his If that is what you must do Mine. If I die then I will give you one final gift and just take you with me to make it less painful on you. Bamre smiled at Purth and said " Thanks Purth I know it sounds morbid, but thats all I want is to be with you." Purth then repiled in a soothing voice You will be with me Mine. Always. Bamre just sighed starting to feel better yet he knew one problem had to be taken care of so that it did not become a worse problem later. He then turned and pulled the knife out of the bed and said to Iron knowing he was smart egough to understand. He said to the firelizard " Take this and hide it somewhere till Purth tells you I need it. Purth will know if I really need it." Iron then chriped that he understood and took the knife form Bamre and flew up and dissapered. Bamre then knew that was the right thing to do. Bamre then proberly the frist time sinice this entrie episode had started to smiled. He then turned and said to Tirlynna " Well that clears up that problem. What about you are you doing fine today? Having any probelms yourself?"

Tirlynna shook her head. "No problems, but look at Reinth."
The rainbow spread her wings. "She's growing much faster than Purth, and getting much closer to adult proportions. They're going to have to accelerate our training, and that's making me a little nervous. I hate the idea of rushing things."
Not to mention flights, something Bamre would never have to worry about.

Bamre looked at Reinth and smiled and said " I would not be worried about the size and the speed of growth on the outside. It would seem to me the speed of growth on the inside. I mean just look at Purth. He may be young on the outside, but on the inside he is smart and mature acting. If that is just a quality of whites I dont know. Yet I think they are all smarter then we give them credit for being. As for the fact they have to rush the training I dont think that can be helped, but you two are smart and together you are strong and I know you can do it even if it has to be rushed that just means you two will have to work harder and your bond will be all the stronger for it. So there is no reason to be nervous. We are all neverous about things, but our dragons will be there to help us." Purth then looked at Tirlynna and then said He is right you know. You can do it. If both you and my sister work togther.

Tirlynna smiled. "Well, neither of us were expecting the dragon colors we got...how could we?"
There had never been a dragon like Reinth in the history of Pern. It would be in the records if there had been. She was in such uncharted territory that it felt like she was on a ship in a storm. "But you're right, we can handle whatever life throws at us."

Bamre smiled and said " Your right I never expected my little friend and your right we should all be able to handle what life throws at us." He reached over and affectionaly started to pet Purth on bettewen his eye ridges. At that moment Iron appered above Bamre's head and tried to land on Bamre's shoulders having forgot that Diamond was already there. Diamond then stood up on Bamre's shoulders and digging her claws into his shoulders and hissing firecely at Iron. She would problery have tried to attack Iron had Iron not immedately turned around and landed on Tirlynna's shoulders instead and sort of hid behind her shoulders and shaking abit while looking at Diamond while Bamre reached behind his shoulder and held Diamond down and said to her while laughing " Esay girl. Iron is not going to take your spot I promise." This made Diamond calm down and relax. Bamre then said to Tirlynna " Sorry about that Diamond is tempermental about who sits on my shoulders. She seems to think my shoulders are her little presonal throne. She been that way ever sinice she was born." Diamond then looked down at Emerald and hissed at her Emerald not being much of a fighter just took off and landed on Reinth's back and was hiding form Diamond. Bamre just laughed and picked Diamond up off his shoulders and held her out in front of him and looked at her and said " Diamond you need to calm down. Everyone knows your the most butefiul thing around my dear." He then held her against chest and rubbed her head. She then made a purring sound. Bamre then said to little gold " There you go my happy now." Diamond then chriped and began to rub her head aginst Bamre's chest showing her affection. Bamre said to Tirlynna " See she is normally very affectionate." Purth let out a rumble then said to Bamre Mine your firelizard are very funny creatures.

Tirlynna giggled. "I want one of those...but I missed the Hatching." She bet she could bribe one of Diamond's eggs out of Bamre, but that would be a while. "So, you going to name all of your firelizards for things that come out of the ground?"
It wasn't a bad idea. Reinth snaked her head around to regard the green using her as a perch, and snorted a little bit at the antics.

Bamre smiled and looked down at Diamond and said to Tirlynna " Dont worry about that. When Diamond flys I will let you know so you can have one or two of the eggs." He aslo smiled at the fact that she had figured out his naming system she was really the only preson who had noticed. He said " Yep that is what I planed. To name all the females after precious jewels and all the males after various types of metals. I aslo try to at least macth the names based on there color." Emerald was looking at Reinth and she chriped at the dragon. Iron countied to hide on Tirlynna's shoulders and Diamond at the air about her that she was proud at what she had done. Purth who had the entrie time had not really talked directly to Reinth said to the other dragon So Reinth. You have been awfully slinet this ethier time sis. You dont feel like talking today.
