Being out of the barracks is all good and well, A'cher observed, strolling down the hall towards the weyrlings' quarters, until you get hungry. Or itchy. Or tired. The boy and his dragonet had been in the weyr bowl, A'cher stretching his legs, and Halsningath his wings. The youth wondered how long it would take for the constantly growing brown to be old enough to take to the skies. This time you are tired. At that, the boy had to grin. It was true. All the time spent oiling, feeding, and sleeping was wearing him out.
Mine, I hear voices.
The two were nearly on top of the doorway when the dragon picked up the soft conversation from within. Curious, as many of the weyrlings were outside, enjoying the sun, A'cher peered in, seeing Bamre and Tirlynna. Bamre seemed shaky, his breaths were slightly uneven, and his face the slightest bit wet. Tirlynna seemed concerned, as well as Purth. For once, the lean young man could find no worry for himself, all of it immediately devoted to the one who needed it. Hals, can you ask Purth what's wrong? The brown obliged, and A'cher stepped cautiously into the cavernous room, eyes glowing with concern.

Emerald was the first one who saw A'cher and chriped at him then took off and flew over to the boy and landed on his shoulders on his shoulders and gently curled her tail around his neck and then chriped a greeting at Halsningath. Purth then form where he was curled up around Bamre said to the brown Mine is very sad. He seems to have a fear that I am going to die. It seem to stem form a long time ago when his small blue firelizard named Steel died to protect him. He blames himself for it and now hopes to make up for by protecting me, Iron, Emerald and Diamond. This seems to have driven him into a state were he has began to cut himself like he used to do before he came to this Weyr. We seemed to have conviced him that he does need to protect me, but it is the other way around. Yet I know him he is stubborn and good at hidding his emotions form others and I believe he is lieing about the fact that we have conviced him. Once he gets it in his head to protect somone he is the type that will die for them. He worrys me alot. He tries to hide it. Yet I see through Mine and he is still unhappy. At least he had his firelizard Iron hide the knife and only I can get Iron to go get it. That basically Halsningath is what is going on so far. Sorry if I was a little long winded. Bamre had noticed A'cher and was still looked up form looking at Diamond while petting her. He then said " Hello A'cher. Hello Halsningath. How are you two doing?"

D'ket saw his older friend looking upset. He was wondering what was going on as he ambled over with Oith at his heels. Bamre seemed to be better, but it never hurt to check. He walked over with Pounce on his head, Arrow in his arms, and Oith at his feet like a canine pup. What do you think is wrong Oith?
Maybe you should ask. That might help Oith responded.
D'ket decided that Oith was right and he asked Bamre, "Is anything wrong?"

Bamre looked at D'ket as he came in and he thought that there were way too many people trying to figure him out. Purth said to him Now you will not be able to hide the truth of your feelings Mine. They will know. Bamre just tried not to lisitin to Purth and said to D'ket " I am fine D'ket. You don't really need to worry." Purth then turned to D'ket and gave him the same monologe that he had given Halsningath He is very sad. At least he had his firelizard Iron hide the knife and only I can get Iron to go get it. That basically D'ket is what is going on so far. Sorry if I was a little long winded. Bamre then looked at Purth and said Why do you tell them all Purth Purth repiled Becuase I have to Mine. Becuase I have to. Diamond then looked up at Bamre and gave a hiss not in anger, but in a scolding manner and Bamre looked down at Diamond felling guilty at lieing to his friend, but not guilty about his mission to protect Purth and his firelizards.
OCC: Sorry I used the same thing over again, but it seemed apporiate.

"Bamre, what do they need protecting from? This place is great and protects us. You need not worry. You are just hurting those who look up to you when you hurt yourself. Hurting yourself won't help others," D'ket said, appalled that his friend had started cutting himself again. This was quite a strange turn of events. Wasn't impressing supposed to help people, not hurt them?
Mine, don't worry to much, Purth and the flits will help that friend of yours sort himself out. He definitely needs friends though. Oith told his implying that Purth, Diamond, Emerald, and Iron had things under control but that D'ket should stay still be a friend to Bamre, not that D'ket would ever stop. Oith didn't really understand the strange feelings of some humans.

Bamre just looked up at Darket and said with a omonus tone to his voice " Form those that would hurt them. This Wyer is a island of sanity on a sea of madness and there are those outside it who would seek to dystory it and the things I love. Like they did before and I will stop them and kill them." Bamre then turned and looked at Purth and said to him " You remind me so much of Steel. Your small yet strong and wise on the inside. I promise I will not let them do to you what they did to him." Purth then nuzzled Bamre and said Oh Mine you dont have to worry about me so much. I'll be fine. You should trust me take care of you. Aslo you should trust me to take care of me. Even my brothers and sisters will take care of me too. Bamre looked into Purth's loving eyes and knowing that he trusted the other dragons and he trusted Purth with his whole heart he said to Purth as he hugged the dragon close " Alright my love I will trust you." This time he ment it. He then let go of Purth and turned back to D'ket thought for a sec having not really thought about the possiably that anyone looked up to him and he thought to himself Stupid stupid stupid. He then heard Purths voice in his mind saying You are not stupid Mine. Never say that about yourself again. You just made a mistake Mine and it is ok. We all make mistakes. Bamre sighed knowing Purth was right again. He was happy that he was lucky egough to have such a wise little creature as his bonded. He then looked at D'ket and said " I am very very sorry I started hurting myself again I was foolish to do so and you are right, but don't worry me and Iron already took care of that. I can't get the knife unless Purth says so." Iron at this point had seen D'ket and reconizing the boy beside Bamre that he liked so much flew over and landed on his shoulder and gently curled his tail around D'ket neck and chriped a greeting at him. Purth then said to D'ket I believe that the threat of him hurting himself again is gone. I hope, but I am worried that in his quest to protect me and the firelizards he may hurt someone else. Purth aslo relayed the same setiments to Tirlynna and A'cher.

Tirlynna frowned a bit. "Bamre? We're a team. All of us. You don't -need- to worry. I know you're not used to that."
The white rider had always been alone before, whilst Tirlynna had always had her brother. Always. Now she had Reinth as well, and regardless of any worries about the rainbow, the girl loved her dragon.
Truly and deeply. "And..I hope we're friends." She flashed smiles to A'cher and D'ket, whilst Reinth lifted her head to regard their dragons.

Bamre sighed and looked at Tirlynna and said " Yes I know that, but I dont know why, but I feel some strange sense of responability." Bamre thought to himself Myabe I should not worry so much Purth said to him Myabe you shouldn't worry so much Mine. You would make me and the others worry about you less. Bamre looked Tirlynna and said " Don't worry we will always be friends. If we were not I would not worry about you so much." Bamre had been alone before. Now that he had Purth and the firelizards he would never be alone again and he would do anything to keep it that way. Yet slowly but surely his idea's and worries where collapsing under the logic that his friends and Purth were telling him. Purth then said to him You will feel better soon Mine. I promise.

The wave of somber emotion brought on by Purth's announcement lessened slightly as Emerald alighted on A'cher's shoulder. Her neutrality on Bamre's condition made it seem as if everything was all right, and had been so, and would be so. The boy suspected that the white dragonet would make it so. Purth always seemed to know which words would comfort one best.
"I'm fine; Halsningath the same," he replied to Bamre's greeting. "You, on the other hand, aren't. You're not allowed to go lifting everyone else's spirits, all the while beating yourself up!" I'd never have known he could.... Nor I, Mine, but now we do. And now he won't do it again. We won't let him. Any of us. The brown was quite sure that all the weyrlings---that knew about the incident, at least---would be keeping Bamre company without rest for the next few days.
Bamre's notion that all of Pern was out to destroy Allride disturbed A'cher almost more deeply than his self-injury. Why would anyone want to destroy them? They hadn't done anything wrong, as far as he knew. To comfort his friend, he said, "Bamre, don't worry! If anyone wanted to hurt you or Purth or any of us, they'd have Kelyna and F'mar and C'lyn to go through, not to mention the rest of us, and Malaracyth, and Antagyth and Kylith! Now, with all those fists and feet and teeth and claws, I don't think anybody who wanted to hurt us would actually try, do you?" As soon as he said it, he regretted asking Bamre's opinion. He was worried that the other weyrling would disagree.
Tirlynna's question brought the slightest hint of a smile to the red-head's face, despite the circumstances. Solemnly, and meaning it every bit, he replied, "Friends forever. All of us," glancing at D'ket as he finished, to show that he would be by the other brown rider's side, too. Halsningath rumbled his agreement, but added to his own, Not quite all of us, Mine, not quite. Your Halsningath wishes it weren't so.

Bamre lisitin to what A'cher was saying and he knew that the other wyerling was right on every thing expect one topic. He had to convice them and make them see so he stood up and approched A'cher. Purth said to him Mine were are you going? Bamre did not respond. He stood in front of A'cher and he reached out swifted and grabed the boy by his shirt collar and pulled him close so they were eye to eye and said " Lisitin you fool. You don't get do you. So let me explian what you seem to not know. There are others outside this Wyer with prejudices that will dystroy us. Mainly they will traget Tirlyanna and her dragon. E'dan and his dragon. Maylina and her dragon though I could not care what happens to those two. They will aslo target me and Purth. If you don't see where I am going with this please tell me so I can explian it to you." He looked A'cher stright in the eye daring him to dispute him. Purth said to Bamre Calm down Mine please Diamond who always went along with what her pet wanted or said was hissing at A'cher.

Tirlynna shook her head. "They'll have to get through C'lyn. And me. And Reinth matures faster than other dragons. Don't worry about me."
They would find it hard to catch something as fast as a rainbow dragon once she could fly and between. She would be faster, surely, than any of the greens. Besides, there was still the way dragons intimidated men and runners.
No dragon would attack another, outside certain situations with flights. She was not afraid.

OOC: Nah, it has a nice dramatization to it! I like it, and A'cher wouldn't protest, anyways. Sorry for taking a million years to post, I'm being the least active person ever.... XP
Bamre's rough jerk initially startled the other boy, and, remembering the weyrling's display with his knife in the dining hall, the length of his body tensed, ready to fight. However, since Purth's rider didn't provoke him, A'cher settled calmly into his position, staring calmly into the wild eyes before his. Halsningath interjected when Bamre paused to take a breath. A'chermine, do not argue. Nothing good can come of it now. Purth will keep his in line.
When Bamre drew into bitter silence, the red-headed boy drew up his chest proudly, and disentangled his shirt collar from the other boy's fists. He cautiously moved his arms from his side, and let them alight softly on Bamre's shoulders. When it was obvious that he was about to speak, the brown on the far side of the room conveyed his worry again to His. I won't fight, Hals. Trust me, I'm saying only what I must. With that, he tried to calm his eyes and said, "Bamre, I understand you. Don't doubt it. But for every decision you make in this life, you're taking some sort of risk. With risk, comes danger. If you were to let yourself dwell on the fact that you could have been gored by any dragonet that hatched, would you have come here and Impressed Purth? Don't cling to the dangers. Don't ignore them, but don't live only worrying. There's good out there, too, Bamre. We're here to make sure you don't forget it."
A'cher let his hands fall again to his side, waiting for his friend's response.

Bamre just looked at A'cher. His were softer now. He the turned away form A'cher and walked back over to Purth and sat down so that the white was curled up around him. He then said to A'cher " You just don't understand do you. I have been alone so long during my life and now I have someone that will never leave me. Will never betray me and will always be there for me. I have never had anything like that in my life. Even my parents ingorned me. I am just so scared to be alone again that is all really."

"Bamre," A'cher began, trying to find the words to console the boy, but coming up short. After a long silence, he said, "I understand you more than you know. I," He broke off again, as he had never really talked about his family, his past, his... sister... Not with anyone at the Weyr, at least. Halsningath shuffled his wings, and though, Mine, no worrying! You have to tell your mind sometimes. The young brown informed Bamre, Mine wants to tell you something, but it hurts him to. I do not understand it all, so I will leave it to him to be brave. He does know how sadness and being lonely feel. He just tries to forget. But, do try to be happy! It makes poor Halsningath sad to see His being sad for a friend!
A'cher couldn't help but smile at his dragon's reprimands for him. The brown never though badly of anyone. With a bit of courage from his bonded, the young man began again, "Before... When I was still with my family..... Nobody really was, well, like me. Except for my little sister," He paused, smiling sadly with his memories, "...Ina. Ina, she was sick. But it made me so happy to see her smile, that I kept staying in with her, and I just... Never wanted to go away. She needed me. Just like Hals does now. I need him, too. But, Ina, one day when we were out with the nets, she... she just didn't wake up. I never said goodbye to her, I couldn't." By that time, A'cher was choking up. He hadn't really accepted Ina's death at all, just pushed it away like something he could ignore until it got better. Halsningath crooned, and gently bumped against His, filling A'cher's mind with the comforting dragon-scent. The earthiness filled his mind and soothed him better than any words his dragon could have sent him.

Tirlynna nodded. "We just have to do our jobs. And we have to..." She paused a little. "Deal with what all these changes mean."
Her lovely, lovely dragon...unlike any other ever hatched. Malaracyth had known, but what had the gold sensed.
Her eyes widened for a moment. What if...what if Reinth was -fertile-? The silver was special because he could rank with a bronze, and she was betting the black was a sort of secondary queen. But Reinth? There was only one way she could be 'special' in that sense... Oh man...
