The mood of the Weyr was sober. Few things could lift it...although the ten small items guarded by a certain firelizard, warming by the hearth might.
Nobody had quite expected the aqua queen to clutch, but she had...and as well as any gold, although who knew what strangeness might come from these warming eggs.
It was, of course, Ocean who first noticed that one of her eggs was twitching. Given she had done well by the humans, she was not averse to her young being claimed. The humming she started up would be enough warning, setting off every other firelizard (and even one or two dragons), a sound that crescendo'd towards the location of the eggs.
It looked rather as if they might start hatching before Aphrodie even got there.

There where two little sets of eyes who wacthed over the kicthen area where the eggs just happened to be brought at this moment. The bronze and a green noticed that there where eggs that where being brought into the room and not only that.... they where hacthing. Leaf did not even wait for five seconds but swooped down near by and began to hum to weclome the new little ones into the world. Yet Topaz knew that he had to do somthing else. He had to go and get his bondeds brother, becuase he knew how much And'l adored the firelizards and would want to have another one for a pet. He would just have to wait and see. He quickly found And'l sleeping in his weyr and began to chrip loudly at him to wake up him.
And'l found himself jerked form sleep to see the image that was put into his head. He could not believe it that soon there would be more flits in the world and just maybe one of them could be his firelizard. He quikly stood up and began to get dress..... and was soon out of there and heading to the kicthen. He soon found out where the women was and saw the eggs.... he smiled and said, "Oh wow are those firelizard eggs are they about to hacthing."

Aphrodie came barreling out of the kitchen. "Ocean, TELL me these things!" She vanished again, coming out with a bowl of meat, glancing around at the weyrfolk who were starting to gather.
Shimi joined in the humming of her 'sister' and half a dozen other firelizards appeared out of nowhere...Tirlynna's Dawn amongst them. The gold was quite happy to see eggs, even if they weren't hers.
One of the eggs was starting to crack open, although as yet the color of the hatchling could not be readily perceived.

Curled up near his mate, and snoozing away peacefully, enjoying one of the few bits of relaxation he’d managed to get recently, Uu’ain had just one response for a chirping firelizard, an irritable mumble and a hand flailed in the general direction of the noise before he curled up more tightly. Ah good, the bronzerider thought as he felt his weyrmate leaving the bed, And’l was dealing with whatever the flit wanted. It was probably a message for him anyway.
Mystery whined and ruffled up his wings unhappily. The strange white firelizard couldn’t understand why his didn’t leap up and follow his mate out the door. Didn’t he hear Topaz? Eggs! Eggs! Hatching! The long firelizard scuttled over the bed and jumped up and down on Uu’ian’s shoulder. For his trouble the flitter was shrugged away onto the blankets, where he lay on his side, looking confused.
Steadfast gave a derisive chirp of his own. Didn’t Mystery know that Uu’ian was hard to wake pleasantly? So much easier to do so unpleasantly… The brown firelizard stalked up his bonded’s body and shrieked right in Uu’ian’s ear. Of course he, too, went tumbling as Uu’ian responded with a startled yelp and sitting bolt upright.
‘Okay, I am now awake.’ The bronzerider announced once he was sure the shock of being woken so suddenly hadn’t stopped his heart after all. ‘What do you want?’ The image of eggs, Ocean’s eggs, with the aqua firelizard beside them, came immediately to mind. ‘Do I need more firelizards? I have enough trouble with you two.’ He grumbled, but got up anyway, he’d get no peace now until Steadfast and Mystery got what they wanted.
Once they’d herded their bonded down to the kitchen, the brown firelizard and the white took up perches around the room and joined the humming, while Uu’ian, resigned to his fatre walked up to stand beside his weyrmate. ‘Please don’t tell me you’re going to try and get more firelizards than Bamre.’ Uu’ian noticed the whiterider wasn’t there, which was unusual, but maybe there was an upper limit to the number of firelizards even Bamre wanted to have.
----
‘I don’t want to.’
‘Yes you do.’ Z’mir implacably pulled his sister along behind him, ignoring the resistance, the objections, and the fearsome glare. ‘And even if you don’t, that’s tough.’ He added, giving his human drag a sharp tug on the arm that sent her stumbling a few steps. It was hard to get Zamora to do anything that someone else wanted her to do, even if it was something she really wanted to do. Z’mir was often surprised that she’d even turned up to the dragon hatching, although she had argued with her dragon about whether or not he could Impress her.
Behind the siblings two young dragons exchanged glances. Should I do something to help ZamoraMine? She does not seem to want to go with her clutch sibling. Brown Binagoonganth, more often called Bina by his bad tempered bonded on the basis that his name was too long for human tongues (although everyone but his rider seemed to manage it), looked up, waaay up now, at his silver clutchsibling.
Idagoth gave the two humans a longer look, then flicked his tail dismissively. No, it’s only a firelizard hatching, there is no danger. Not even a danger that she’ll attract one if she behaves like that. Really it was beyond Idagoth how his brother could have chosen the grumpy sibling, his Z’mir was so much more pleasant to be around. Probably Z’mir should have forbidden her to go rather than asking her to go with him. The silver added, since Z’mir was thinking exactly that.
By the time they actually got inside there were so many people around that Z’mir had slowed down out of sheer nervousness, and Zamora was forced to walk normally beside him out of a desire not to look stupid. However when it came to the actually getting near the small clutch, both siblings stopped short and hung back.
----
Trailing unobtrusively behind a pair of siblings who she seemed to recall had Impressed at Malaracyth’s last hatching came the pale shape of Idara. She had no firelizard to alert her to the hatching, but her queen dragon was as close by outside as she could possibly get, adding her own low hum to the higher tones of the firelizards. Idara would have objected but Tuinth seemed to want to welcome the firelizard hatchlings to the world so much that Idara really didn’t have the heart to tell her not to. Somehow she’d agreed to go and watch the hatching too, so Tuinth could see it. At the moment Idara was so grateful that her dragon hadn’t suffered more than emotional damage in M’rim’s killing spree that she didn’t have the will to refuse her queen anything. It was probably all going to end in tears.
Oh look one is hatching already. Don’t miss anything Idara, please. Tuinth cooed happily as Idara entered the room and moved around to one side so she could get a good view for Tuinth. She certainly hoped the gold would find the firelizard babies so exciting if Idara should happen to attract one, which didn’t seem likely since she had no food for a hatchling, but still, stranger things had happened. Speaking of strange things, what strangeness would emerge from this clutch? The mother was a new colour of firelizard, and a large one.

That first egg cracked open...and if a bronze was a good omen in a gold clutch, what did it say that the first of Ocean's offspring to see the world was a deep red color...a blood, the male counterpart to the oceans.
He shook egg goo and shards off himself, then started to move, only to bump into another egg.
The motion caused that one to crack, too, a green head becoming visible, although as of yet, the firelizard did not shed the rest of her egg. She seemed to be in no real hurry to greet the world.

And'l just contiuned to sit there happily as he wacthed the little eggs beganing to crack. He knew that soon there would be new firelizards entering the world. There was also the possiably that one of those little guys could be his. He had always wanted to have a big group of firelizards like his brother, and he knew that the reason the whiterider wasn't here was probably just the fact that he had so many, or that he wanted to give other people a chance at impressing one of the firelizards. He personally had been very happy when his weyrmate had impressed the new little firelizard Mystery. Becuase it only added a new member to there little family.
Now there was a chance there would be more... of course he realized very quickly that he had not been the only one awoken by the firelizards this morning, and he turned to the other male besides and said with a smile, "Well I can always try can't I... Don't you want to have a bunch of cuddly firelizards around silly?" He had luckily brought some food with him which he was now holding out and trying to coax over the firelizards with.

A blood? Interesting. Idara could almost feel Tuinth’s tail twitch as the gold spoke. Idara personally disliked the one blood that was bonded to a human, but Tuinth had no such opinions and her voice was only curious. I hope some more people come, maybe I should call them? I could…
Idara smiled at Tuinth’s suggestion, the gold was perfectly willing, and certainly more than able to rouse all but the dragon deaf. No thank you, Tuinth. The firelizards can live well enough wild, and anyone who can’t work out what the humming means by now doesn’t deserve a pet. Idara commented and turned her attention to the green firelizard still in her shell.
----
Once the first firelizard emerged from its egg Z’mir let his sister’s wrist drop. He was certain Zamora wouldn’t leave now, besides he no longer minded what she did because his attention had been caught by the brilliant red hide. That was not a brown; in fact it seemed a great deal more like its mother than anything else, the same sort of webbed feet, as if it were hatched to swim as well as fly.
With a sniff for her brother’s behaviour that might have been about him dragging her along in the first place, or might have been about him forgetting her as soon as a firelizard actually hatched Zamora leaned sideways against the wall, and peered around Z’mir at the clutch, just in time to see a red firelizard walk right into another egg. Zamora grinned, it kind of reminded her of her brother when he was concentrating on something else.
----
Uu’ian gave his weyrmate a crooked smile. ‘I don’t know, I wouldn’t want as many firelizards as Bamre has. I’m actually surprised not to see him here though.’ Uu’ian answered, watching the first firelizard escape his egg. ‘Besides, I have a perfectly good weyrmate to cuddle with. And my firelizards are enough trouble for six sometimes.’ The bronzerider added as Steadfast chose that moment to start scolding Mystery for some reason or another.

The blood shook even more egg goo from himself, then tried to fly. His wings not yet dry enough, he ended up landing right at Uu'ian's feet. Chirp?
Aphrodie grinned. "Feed him..." she prompted the bronzerider.
Which was the point at which the hatching was interrupted, some attention drawn from the shaking of eggs. Likely the dragons were aware of the arrival, but a tanned, somewhat older Tirlynna was making her way into the room. She stopped.
"Good job Bamre stayed outside. The last thing he needs is more of them." As if the rainbowrider had been away for...well. She had been away for five minutes. And also ten years.

Next to Tirlynna walked in a 14 year old silent girl with wild blond bleached curls chopped into a short bob. On her head rode a green firelizard and a blue sat on her shoulders. Three other firelizards flew around her humming suddenly exceited by the hatching they had arrived durring.
Karlyn smiled and sent calmness to the little minds around her, and they settled on shoulders and arms while the one green sat on her head.
I hope to get a queen or a mutation this time. Though I wouldn't say no to any of them. Karlyn told Reinth and Purth. She could talk to the dragons, and often did. She didn't know any of the other dragons here and she would wait until introduced to "speak" to them. She smiled silently sharring in her flits joy of the hatching. She didn't quite understand that all these people would still remember the four year old her.

And'l could only stare in joy at the little firelizards which he saw he in front of him as they began to hacth form there eggs. He really hoped that there would be some that would impress to him.... or even to Uu'ian if not to himself. He looked at the other with a smirk on his face, and reached out and rested a arm around his weyrmates shoulder, "Of course you are the best thing to cuddle with in all of Pern, if I do say so myself... but you know it is as they say. The more the marrier." He didn't think it would be too bad to have some more flits around, plus if that d**n assassain ever came back around then he would have some more eyes and ears too.
That was when he noticed the blood that had now landed at Uu'ian's feet and he postively beamed with a smile, "Look.... you have a new firelizard... he is so cute." It was another one of those new Aqua's like his brother had. He was not sure what they where called. Blood flit is what he heard Bamre call them becuase of the color of there hides and the water in there eggs.
He noticed out of his eye that Tyrlinna had come into the room, and next to her was a girl that looked very famailer yet also very differnt. Yet he began to think for a few moments and he quickly realized who that possiably was. Sinice he had helped come up with the plan to go back in time he figured that this was probably Karlyn... though a older one. He began to wonder what his brother would look like after 10 years. He found it kinda funny now that he thought about it becuase Iron was probably the oldest thing in bunch now. He did some quick mental math and figured... well that thing was probably close to being 20 now.

The blood coloured firelizard showed no interest in Idara at all, for which she was grateful. Instead he went, rather appropriately the goldrider felt, to Uu’ian, a rather unusual and somewhat eccentric bronzerider. He already had a rather strange bronze dragon and a very strange white flit. Probably the bronzerider’s bossy brown firelizard thought it was his job to keep the fools in order. Good luck to that brown!
However before the green that remained in her egg this time found anyone to call hers, Idara’s attention was diverted by Tirlynna entering the room. The rainbowrider was recognisable but she looked…older. Idara had to blink once or twice to make sure it really was Tirlynna and not someone else who just look like her. Certainly recent events had put turns on everyone, but not quite that literally, and the girl with the firelizards who came behind the rainbowrider was even stranger, Idada couldn’t help a feeling that she knew the girl but at the same time knew she’d never seen her before. Tuinth, who is that? She asked, if Tuinth knew, the Idara should.
Don’t you recognise her? It is the hatchling. The gold oblingingly provided an image of Kelyna’s daughter as the gold and her rider had last seen her, at four years old. Now please watch the babies. The dragon requested.
----
Zamora snorted quietly as the red firelizard Impressed, mostly because Z’mir looked so incredibly deflated by it going to someone else. It was really quite funny. She just knew Z’mir was fascinated by the mutated firelizards, and would love to Impress one, just so he could spend forever observing it. That was Z’mir for you, if it was possible he’d be back on the sands at every dragon hatching too, but fortunately a person could only bond to one dragon. Igadoth would probably have something to say about that anyway.
Turning her attention back to the unhatched eggs for a moment, Zamora smiled, the gentle expression looking quite out of place of her normally solemn face. Bina would probably like a firelizard to play with, silly dragon that he was.
Ignoring his sister, the interruptions of other humans and adult firelizards, Z’mir leaned forward a little more to peer at the little green, and the unhatched eggs around her. Now that the red firelizard had his bonded Z’mir had temporarily lost interest in it.
----
Uu’ian smiled and wrapped hand around one of And’l’s, just enjoying the feeling of physical contact with his mate. ‘As long as none of them are as dim as Mystery.’ He said jokingly. It was true that Mystery was not the brightest of firelizards, but he was sweet, and Uu’ian did adore the silly flitter.
The bronzerider was about to say something more to And’l, and indeed, was paying far more attention to his weyrmate than the eggs he was supposed to be watching. So it came as some surprise to Uu’ian when And’l pointed out the firelizard by his foot and Aphrodie prompted him to feed his new pet.
‘Oh, hello little one. I didn’t see you down there.’ The bronzerider reached down to pick up his new pet before someone stepped on the hatchling. Since the firelizard was making his hunger known without any help from anyone Uu’ian reached over and took some of the food And’l had brought to stuff into his new pet right away, sure his weyrmate wouldn’t deny the hatchling a little of what he was trying to lure flitters of his own with.

The green, for her part, seemed in no immediate hurry to Impress. Indeed, while she hesitated, another egg rocked.
And rocked.
It did not, however, break open. While everyone's attention was on that one, a brown hatched next to it. The dark colored firelizard paced over to the rocking egg and peered at it, even tapping it with a claw. The little one seemed to be having some difficulty getting out.
Finally, the green chirped in the general direction of Aphrodie...who acked and made shooing motions. That directed her attention to Karlyn, she padded over to her, wings spread.
Hrm. She'd have to share this one...

Karlyn smiled at the little green. She sent welcoming images even as Proud flew in with some meat for her. She held out her hand and proud dropped the food he brought for the hatching. She didn't even really have to ask anymore. He was very well trained. He shoved the blue on her head over and proceeded to welcome the new green to the flock just as Karlyn and all her flits were doing. Karlyn held out the meat to the little green and sent an image that worked with the name for the creature, Sasa. Itwasa mixture of her telling the green her name and sending an image of herself tellling the creature her name. She sent her words to the flits even though they could only respond with pictures. They seemed to always understand her even without her needing to go through the conscious effort of asking.
Karlyn looked up at the people around her that were also trying to impress flits. Flit impressing here was different than in the wild where the flits were fighting for surviva and you simply tried to feed them all. Some would impress to you and others wouldn't. Out there it was a fight for life.
Looking at all the flits around, Karlyn knew she could introduce herself with relative ease. She could tell the flits and they could transfer the message to their people.

As Uu’ian got to the serious work of shoving food into his new firelizard’s gaping maw without choking the hatchling, hard work considering how voracious the young flit was, his other two pets examined the blood. Mystery was totally thrilled to have another friend to play with, and displayed his enthusiasm clearly by jumping up and down on his perch, flapping his wings for a bit of extra lift. Steadfast was less enthusiastic, eyeing both Mystery and the hatchling with slight contempt. However was he supposed to keep Uu’ian paying attention to the things he needed to with two other firelizards, a dragon, and a mate to distract him?
Pausing in his eating the blood in Uu’ian’s hand turned his head to observe those he was sharing this pet with more closely. Well they’d better shape up and acknowledge their rightful leader. To get his point across the blood raised his wings and hissed at the white and the brown, both of which ignored him.
‘Hey, you knew they were there, it’s too late to hiss at them now.’ Uu’ian twitched the next morsel away from the blood, who lunged after it with a scolding chatter. Didn’t Uu’ian understand how lucky he was to have a wonderful flitter like him? Uu’ian chuckled softly at the firelizard’s attitude, but fed him anyway. ‘How about Pride?’ he asked the firelizard. ‘You certainly have enough of it.’ The little blood took a moment to look disbelieving before he hissed. There was already a Proud in here, and he was not about to be mistaken for that! ‘Okay, not Pride then. How about Fury?’ Uu’ian asked, since the little beast obviously had big opinions on what his name should be. Fury would do, the firelizard chirped his agreement as sweetly as if he’d never been hissing at all.
----
Idara watched the green carefully, as per Tuinth’s request. Mostly she did so because the hatchling went exactly where Idara wanted to look anyway after one false start towards Aphrodie. Idara was kind of surprised to see the mystery girl, who Tuinth insisted was Karlyn, Impress another firelizard when she already appeared to have five, although some people did seem to attract the creatures. The whiterider for one, and possibly that bronzerider, since he’d added a third flit to his collection without really trying.
Could that girl possibly be Karlyn? Idara had heard odd stories of people vanishing and then turning up either much later without apparently aging, or an hour or so later only much older. However the people involved in such stories were always dragonriders, and normally careless or young ones. Idara had always taken such stories as cautionary tales about travelling between up until now, but could there be a grain of truth in them?
----
Without realising he’d ever looked hopeful Z’mir’s face dropped a bout a foot as the green firelizard finally left her shell and Impressed to someone else. However it was a brief moment before he transferred his hopeful attention to the newly hatched brown, and the violently rocking egg it seemed to be so interested in. All the babies were going to people who already had firelizards, it just wasn’t fair!
Quickly trying to pretend he hadn’t thought anything so childish, Z’mir stood up a little straighter and looked briefly around the room, sadly though all he noted was Zamora grinning at him. She probably knew exactly what he thought, and he supposed it was too late to try and get her out of his hair.

Firelizards hatching Sitamine! Kellorth's voice broke into the young woman's thoughts, and a smile spread across her face.
"What are we waiting for then?" Lysita replied with a soft laugh as she hastily pulled on a jacket and practically ran down the steps into the weyrbowl. Across the large expanse and into the lower caverns, slowing as she came upon where the hatching was happening.
"Sorry I wasn't here sooner." She apologised to those already gathered, giving Idara a small nod and light smile. Was there still a chance at any?
(Meh, sorry it's short.)
