Kelyna proudly stood beside her dragon and looked at the eggs with awe. There were 15 eggs, more than she had ever seen before! Malaracyth was radiating happines an kept sending to Kelyna, See how great my flight with Kilith was. Kelyna just smiled and would answer back, I always knew you were great and would make the best dragon on Pern. Kelyna twiddled with her thumds and then sent, Yes, You did a wonderful flight with how long you flew. Kilith also did a good job of catching you. Kilith wouldn't have caught me if I hadn't wanted to be caught by him, Malaracyth sent, defending herself.

C'lyn stepped out onto the Sands. Fifteen eggs! There had been a time that would have been a small clutch. Now? It was like Faranth's seventy eggs and several queens. His approach was cautious. Malaracyth was allowing the clutchsire and his rider onto the Sands, and pretty much nobody else except for her rider.
He was not taking any risks, and inclined his head to Malaracyth. "Greetings, Malaracyth." And then he turned to Kelyna, and his smile widened. She was not just his Weyrwoman. She carried his child, and that caused a certain protectiveness to extend towards her. "The eggs seem to be healthy, and I can feel the mother's pride from here."
And Kilith's. Bronzes already had egos...

Hello C'lyn, Malaracyth sent. Kelyna smiled shyly at C'lyn. Her feelings for him still seemed new to her, even five months after the flight. "Hello C'lyn," she said. She then added, "Yes, We are all proud of how well our dragons flew. I beleive that this goes to show that thread is coming back. Why else would the last fertile queen lay so many eggs?" She had kept thinking about it and had finally come up with that decision about the eggs.

C'lyn nodded. "Part of me hopes it isn't. Records indicate that normal clutches for close to a Pass are thirty to forty eggs. Fifteen would be a normal Interval clutch. On the other hand...maiden clutches are usually smaller." He stepped over to the Weyrwoman. She was starting to show her pregnancy quite obviously.
Boy or girl? he wondered. Future rider he hoped. Hopefully, Tirlynna would also Impress.

"I shudder at the though that is a pass, even though I beleive it is. I shudder to realize how unready Pern is for a pass," Kelyna said while playing with the fabric on blue dress. She was terribly unhappy about being stuck here when she could be working. She felt almost helpless because of the baby that she carries.
Malaracyth then said to the both of them, I believe it is the pass because I produced a clucth that is bigger than any of the other dragons had been clutching.

C'lyn nodded. "I think so too, but we're going to need even more," he said, softly. "I hope the black egg is, somehow, another gold. Two aren't going to be enough." He shook his head.
"Listen to me. C'lyn the eternal pessimist." Even if he was right...

"Malaracyth, do you think that maybe the strange eggs are some how that scientists way of making sure that Pern has enough dragons if they are low and thread is coming?" Kelyna asked her dragon. Then she turned to C'lyn and said, "I don't think your a pessimist, just looking at the facts trually."
Malaracyth looked at her rider thoughtfully and sent to both, You might be right, those eggs just feel different. They don't seem like a normal egg. It might just be my fettering... Malaracyth sounded puzzled, like she couldn't understand her own eggs.

"And this is Malarcyth's first clutch. Maiden queens can get odd ideas...there may be nothing unusual about them at all," C'lyn mused. "Although I'd be very surprised if the black one wasn't at least a bronze...the size of that thing!

Malaracyth sent a definite response to C'lyn, It is not a bronze, It feels bigger than a gold, with less commending power. You might be right that I am just fetering, but I promise you, that egg is not a bronze.
Kelyna reached out for C'lyn's hand, seeking comfort. It was strange to think about what the eggs might be. It actually scared her a little. Almost nothing ever scared her, but these strange eggs did. Looking at the two bigger ones, the biggest being the black, she wondered what would happen to the candidate that got into the path of this dragonet when it hatched. The egg was almost four feet tall, bigger than any egg ever before. The prospects on that things size were, scary at best.

C'lyn took her hand. "Let's talk about something else." He still wondered. He wanted Tirlynna to Impress the gold, and was sure she thought he didn't know she'd rather have a green. To the ambitious bronzerider, that was peculiar.
Still. He supposed he wanted her to be happy. "Something other than weird eggs...."

"Like what, maybe which egg we think each candidate is going to get?" Kelyna smiled straight at him. He could be the ugliest man in the world but she would still love him. He was there to support her and to help her. She knew that he would never let her down. She gently leaned against him. She felt tired, like all the world was finally managing to wear her down, but she knew that he was there and that he would help her to run this weyr. She knew that he would back her decisions as she would back his. She knew that he was there for her.

C'lyn nodded. "I admit to a bias. I hope Tirlynna will get the gold. But that is..." He smiled. "Family loyalty. She wants a green." He made a wry face. "But the dragons will decide."
As she leaned against him, he slipped an arm around her. He wondered...boy or girl...

Kelyna almost laughed as she leaned against C'lyn. "What would you think if Tirlynna got the super small weird one. The one that;s smaller than the rest of the clutch?" Kelyn asked, wondering what his reaction would be. She could understand his hope though that Tirlynna would get gold. Wasn't that what everyone wants for their family members?

C'lyn laughed. "Oh, come on, that's either a green or a dud..." Nothing bigger than a green could fit in that egg. "And I won't be mad if she ends up a greenrider. Perhaps a little disappointed, but not mad."
No...C'lyn would believe in 'weird' dragons when he saw them.

"Are you sure that that little egg won't be one of those whites out of legend? Maybe Tirlynna will impress to a white. Or maybe she will impress to a brown. That might be cool," Kelyna said, her eyes sparkling with amusment as she gently teased C'lyn. She would never tease him more than gently, but it eas fun to tease him sometimes.
